6U VPX G4V-VPX Viper™ Boasts Low-Power, High I/O Flexibility
SANTA CLARITA, CA – October 11, 2011 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems (CWCES), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading system integrator of rugged deployed integrated electronics for the aerospace, defense and industrial markets, has introduced a new rugged 6U VPX (VITA 46.1/46.4), low-power G4V-VPX Viper™ Single Board Computer (SBC) ideal for safety critical applications. To deliver optimal compute performance in size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C)-constrained commercial aerospace and military platform environments, the G4V-VPX Viper features Freescale™’s fast and efficient MPC8548E PowerQUICC™ III processor with VxWorks 653 RTOS including DO-178B Level A certification artifacts. The board also features an extensive I/O complement to provide a highly capable processing platform ideal for a wide range of deployed aerospace and military applications. The G4V-VPX Viper simplifies the integration of high performance processing and a rich array of I/O into embedded safety critical subsystems.
“Curtiss-Wright Controls’ G4V-VPX Viper delivers 2760 MIPS/1200MHz Power Architecture™ processing in a low-power VPX form factor ideal for demanding SWaP-C constrained deployed aerospace and military platforms,” said David Dietz, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems group. “This purpose built SBC speeds the development and time-to-market of rugged, safety critical computing in applications such as flight controls, mission computing and sense/avoid processing.”
The G4V-VPX Viper Single Board Computer supports its PowerQUICC III processor with an extensive I/O complement including two (2) PMC sites (at up to 99MHz), Gigabit Ethernet, twelve (12) serial ports, dual MIL-STD-1553, and TTL DIO. Available in both air-cooled (-40 to 71° C) and conduction-cooled (-40 to 85° C) versions, the G4V-VPX Viper is ideal for use either as an application-specific compute blade or as an intelligent I/O blade. This low-power 6U VPX SBC typically uses 20W power.
