FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz., July 27, 2011 — OpenSystems Media (OSM), LLC today announced that it has expanded its editorial leadership team by hiring John McHale, effective August 8, 2011. McHale will serve as editorial director for Military Embedded Systems magazine.

McHale will spearhead the expansion of editorial offerings and direct editorial strategy that will combine the best embedded news, commentary, and trends for the military electronics community in print and online. As editorial director, he will set the overall strategy for growing Military Embedded Systems as well as write feature articles and commentary, moderate webcasts, and develop other digital content initiatives.

“I’m excited to add such a seasoned professional, and one of the most respected editors in the industry, to OSM’s editorial leadership team,” said Rosemary Kristoff, vice president of editorial, OpenSystems Media. “John’s extensive knowledge of the military environment will play an integral part in expanding our military embedded coverage. He will help OSM deliver on its mission of bringing key military information and articles to our readership.”

McHale joins other OSM recent hires — Mike Demler, Jerry Gipper and Warren Webb — cementing OSM’s position as a top embedded and military technology thought leader.

He has extensive experience in webinar content development and strategy and is actively involved in the social media arena on LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

Prior to joining OpenSystems, McHale was executive editor of Military & Aerospace Electronics magazine, where he covered the defense industry for 15 years. During that time he led and launched magazines, websites, shows, and e-newsletters focused on homeland security and avionics as well as a defense publication and website in Europe.

McHale has served as conference director and chair of the Military & Aerospace Electronics Forum and its Advisory Council since 2004 and Avionics Europe since 2008.

McHale has a Master of Print Journalism degree from Boston University and an undergraduate degree in Business Management from Albright College.
