September 17, 2007, Houston, Texas, USA – Texas Memory Systems, maker of the World’s Fastest Storage®, today announced the RamSan-500 – the first enterprise-class cached flash storage system, and the fastest flash-based solid state device currently available. The RamSan-500’s cached flash design delivers unprecedented high read performance and large capacity storage, at a price point that makes solid state disks (SSDs) more affordable than ever before. Compared to a similar capacity high-end hard disk-based RAID system, the RamSan-500 can deliver in excess of sixteen times the performance while using 50% less power.

Solid state storage devices like the new RamSan-500 are deployed to accelerate software applications such as those based on Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle databases. With solid state disks, applications can accommodate more concurrent users and simultaneous transactions, and an SSD can be more economical than adding monolithic RAID, servers, RAM, or constant application tuning.

The RamSan-500’s cached flash design utilizes the fastest DDR memory to create a large, performance-boosting cache for the high capacity, lower cost, flash-based storage. Available in one or two terabyte capacities in a 4U rack mount chassis, the RamSan-500 delivers 100,000 I/Os per second (IOPS) sustained random read, 10,000 IOPS sustained random write and two gigabytes per second of sustained random read or write bandwidth and yet only consumes 250 watts of power. The system can be SAN-attached with up to eight 4-gigabits per second Fibre Channel ports. Multiple RamSan-500s can be combined to deliver additional high-performance capacity.

“Increasing performance and I/O requirements in markets such as OLTP, data warehousing, and video, are driving a need for solid state storage solutions. Advances in solid state memory technology and dipping price points are narrowing the economic gap between SSD and traditional HDD systems.” said Jeff Janukowicz, Research Manager, Solid State Drives at IDC. “High performance SSD-based solutions, such as the RamSan-500 by Texas Memory Systems, will help system OEMs meet these market requirements and capitalize on this growing opportunity for SSDs.”

“We see a great opportunity to integrate flash storage technology into our SSD lineup and solve a wider array of customer performance challenges than ever before,” said Woody Hutsell, Executive Vice President at Texas Memory Systems. “With the RamSan-500 we have engineered a solid state disk system that uniquely capitalizes on the best attributes of both DDR and flash, at a price point that we think will be attractive to customers who might otherwise compromise with HDD-based arrays, which offer lower performance and higher power consumption.”

Texas Memory Systems is now accepting orders for the RamSan-500 from existing customers. General availability is expected in the fourth quarter of 2007. More information is available online at www.superssd.com/products/ramsan-500.
