Kfar Saba, Israel, November 12, 2007 — Connect One™, the Device Networking Authority™, today announced that PAX, a leading point-of-sale provider based in Shenzhen, China, has started mass production of the P80 EFTPOS terminal with Connect One’s iChip™ CO2128. CO2128 provides secure Internet protocol (IP) communications and full support for WiFi connectivity. With these capabilities, PAX has been able to design the P80 as a high-performance EFTPOS terminal that provides stable and secure WiFi connectivity to its customers.

With the P80, PAX, Chinas biggest manufacturer of secure payment solutions, launches its first WiFi-based terminal, broadening the scope of its existing solutions. To ensure a strong offering, PAX examined a number of different solutions seeking a field-proven solution that would provide reliable, high-performance, secure IP communications over WiFi. PAX selected Connect Ones iChipSec CO2128 Internet controller chip because it provided the latest SSL3 encryption, hardware-based security and all required IP protocols and applications on a single chip. In addition, the CO2128 acts as an impenetrable firewall, shielding the application from Internet attacks.

“Connect Ones iChip enabled us to start production of our P80 just one month after we built our prototype,” noted Terence Tong, PAX Director of Research and Development. “The fast design-in time gave us a major jump on our competition. Since iChip includes all the Internet protocols and drivers needed for both WiFi and secure IP communications, our engineers were able to focus on our core development tasks. Using a few simple commands, we are able to manage all WiFi, security and IP level aspects.”

The win of the P80 contract builds on a solid business and technology relationship between Connect One and PAX. PAX already relies on Connect One for its LAN models, which use the same AT+i protocol used by the CO2128. By extending this same platform into its wireless line, PAX ensured a transparent transition, facilitating P80s development even further.

“iChip enables manufacturers unparalleled security and unbeatable time-to-market,” said Ariel Shulman, Connect Ones Vice President of sales. “Our solution gives manufacturers complete peace of mind when faced with tight time-to-market constraints where performance and security are tantamount—all at an extremely effective price point. These features will enable iChip, and especially the CO2128, to continue to dominate the point-of-sale M2M market.”

About iChip CO2128

CO2128 overcomes time and complexity barriers of implementing secure end-to-end IP communications. Designers do not need to significantly reprogram applications since Connect Ones iChipSec CO2128 uses the AT+i API to offload WiFi drivers & security tasks, SSL security and networking protocols from the host application. iChipSec CO2128 also acts as a firewall-in-a-chip, protecting the application from networks attacks. CO2128 supports LAN, WiFi and all types of dial-up/wireless modems (AMPS, CDMA, CDMA2000, CDPD, GPRS, GSM, IDEN, and TDMA cellular protocols). CO2128 includes a full secure TCP/IP stack, plus upper layer protocols like SMTP, POP3, MIME, HTTP, WAP, FTP and TELNET. It includes an integrated Web server for easy application management.

With CO2128, developers can take advantage of 10 simultaneous TCP/UDP sockets; two listening sockets; SMTP, MIME, POP3, FTP, Telnet, and HTTP/HTTPs clients; a Web server with a website for the application and one for configuring iChipSec CO2128; and SerialNet™ mode for serial-to-IP bridging. Secure Socket iWiFi supports 64-/128-bit WEP encryption, WPA1 and WPA2 WiFi encryption, AES-128/256, SHA-128/192/256, 3DES; the SSL3/TLS1 protocol for a secure client socket session and a secure FTP session.

The CO2128 operates at an industrial temperature range of -40° to 85° C (-40° to 185° F) and is RoHS-compliant.
