August 2007 – Woburn MA, USA – Concurrent Technologies announces the release of their latest single-slot VME dual-core processor, dual PMC, single board computer. The VP 417/03x uses the latest mobile dual core processors from the Intel® embedded roadmap, the 1.5 GHz or the 2.16 GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor. The VP 417/03x family is I/O compatible with the popular and long standing VP 31x/02x family and gives an even greater improvement in measured performance/watt. The board is ideal for low power intensive processing applications where the dual processor cores can access up to 4 Gbytes on board DDR2 ECC SDRAM at up to 6.4 Gbytes/s. With two 66MHz PMC sites, suitable for a wide range of PMC modules, the board also includes extensive I/O functionality and can support VITA 31.1. Commercial and extended temperature versions are now available and ruggedized, conduction-cooled or air-cooled, versions will be available shortly. Applications for this family of boards are expected within the defense, industrial control and transportation markets.
The VP 417/03x board supports the 2.16 GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7400 processor (in a socket) or 1.5 GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo L7400 processor (soldered), each with 4 Mbytes L2 cache (shared between the cores), both processors support 64-bit operating systems. By using appropriate operating systems and applications software, a computing performance increase of over twice an Intel® Pentium® M processor is achievable, and yet the Intel Thermal Design Power (TDP) for the 2.16 GHz dual core processor is 34W versus 27W TDP for the single core 2.0 GHz Intel® Pentium® M processor 760. The Intel® E7520 server class chipset and Intel® 6300ESB ICH are used to complement the processor to achieve a high performance, yet low power, core architecture.
VITA 31.1 Gigabit Ethernet on a VME64x backplane enables a tried and tested method of implementing a LAN-based multiprocessor architecture by leveraging readily available Ethernet hardware, TCP/IP software, clustering and other network management tools. Using standard networking techniques offers efficient method of remote booting boards within the chassis, and simplified intercommunication between boards. It can be used as a method of offloading tasks from the standard VME backplane, thereby improving overall application efficiency. VITA 31.1 is suitable for applications such as data acquisition, radar data processing or those requiring data synchronization across multiple system boards.
Supporting two 66MHz PCI-X PMC sites, and expansion for two more PMC sites (all with rear I/O) this high functionality board offers an array of functions – analog graphics, keyboard, mouse, 2x RS-232/422/485, 2x USB and EIDE interfaces. The front panel supports dual PMC, analog graphics, keyboard and mouse interfaces, and includes an additional USB and an additional RS-232 interface. To cater for embedded applications, there is 64Mbytes of Application Flash memory. For a wider range of applications, there is an ATA100 EIDE P2 interface, an onboard EIDE option for CompactFlash™ modules or an onboard SATA150 2.5-inch disk drive. As well as the industry standard PC interfaces, other features available include a watchdog timer, long duration timer, and LAN boot firmware.
For ease of integration the VP 417/03x supports many of today’s leading operating systems, including Linux®, Windows® XP Embedded, Windows® XP, Windows® 2000, Solaris™, LynxOS®, QNX® and VxWorks®.
