CHATSWORTH, CA – OCTOBER 25, 2010 – Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEC), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VPX, OpenVPX™, VME, VXS and CompactPCI products for the rugged, deployed defense and aerospace market, has announced their new Continuum HPEC (High Performance Embedded Computing) Center of Excellence to assist military and aerospace customers in the solution mapping, architecture, and validation of large node digital signal processing (DSP) clusters which include heterogenous combinations of FPGA and CPU processing elements, A/D & D/A, IO, interconnects, fabrics, middleware and libraries. Targeting RADAR, SIGINT, EW and communications applications, this multi-node system initiative will speed the integration of open standards-based sensor processing systems, lowering the risk of future technology insertions. Continuum HPEC systems will scale and grow, leveraging the continuous innovation in each of CWCEC’s modular product families. The Continuum HPEC Center of Excellence will be based in CWCEC’s Chatsworth, California business unit.
“Today’s signal and image processing applications increasingly demand levels of DSP compute performance only offered by large-scale multi-node DSP clusters, “ said Lynn Bamford, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “With our new Continuum HPEC Center of Excellence we are committed to leading the military COTS market in the development and deployment of open standards-based HPEC solutions.”
The Continuum HPEC Center of Excellence will reduce customer risk while making it easier and faster for customers to develop and deploy high node and core count compute clusters for RADAR, SIG/INT, EW and Communications applications based on the most advanced open standards such as OpenVPX™ and OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED™). Continuum HPEC systems will leverage CWCEC’s proven and qualified COTS-based systems and board level products such as the CHAMP-AV6, HPE720, ADC510, and VPX6-185 high performance boards interconnected by a RapidIO switch fabric and high-performance open standard middleware.
