New FMC-XCLK2 is a quad channel low jitter, phase matched clock generator.

HIGH WYCOMBE, UK – January 21, 2010 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, VXS, and CompactPCI products for the rugged deployed aerospace and defense (A&D) market, has introduced a new FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC/VITA 57) module, the FMC-XCLK2, its first FMC clock generator card. The FMC-XCLK2 is a quad channel clock generator card that features low jitter and phase matched outputs. Available in both air-cooled and conduction-cooled rugged versions, the card provides the high quality clock source required for high frequency data sampling applications and can support RF output frequencies ranging from 50MHz to >2GHz. This card provides a cost-effective, compact alternative source for clocking and synchronizing I/O, whether provided by Curtiss-Wright Controls’ broad family of ADC and DAC FMC cards or the customer’s own I/O.

The card is designed for use in demanding military applications such as Electronic Counter Measures (ECM), Software Defined Radio (SDR), and RADAR that require high-speed ADC and DAC components. The FMC-XCLK2 speeds and simplifies the integration of FPGAs into embedded system designs. It complements Curtiss-Wright Controls’ growing family of high-speed ADC FMC cards, including the recently announced ADC511, ADC513, and FMC-520, providing a complete ADC/DAC solution for DSP applications.

“Curtiss-Wright Controls is committed to leading the industry with high performance FMC solutions, going beyond offering analog I/O FMC cards with important system components such as the FMC-XCLK2 clock generator for high frequency data sampling,” said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Modular Solutions, Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “Our growing family of FMC FPGA I/O mezzanine cards significantly speeds and simplifies the use of FPGAs in rugged deployed embedded digital signal processing applications.”

The FMC-XCLK2’s RF clocks are derived from either an onboard or external 10MHz master reference source. The RF output frequency is defined by a build option using a narrowband, but low jitter, VCO/PLL frequency multiplier. An FMC-XCLK2 can also be used as a 10MHz reference clock source to other system components such as clock generators.

The FMC-XCLK2 easily interfaces to FPGA-based host board such as Curtiss-Wright Controls’ Xilinx® Virtex®-5 FPGA based FPE650 (Quad FPGA VPX), HPE720 (MPC8641D/dual FPGA VPX) and FPE320 (3U FPGA VPX) boards. For the majority of applications, all that the FMC-XCLK2 module requires of the host card is power.

FMC-XCLK2 Key Features:

· 4x phase matched output (good for multi-IO sync)

· Onboard 10MHz reference

About FMC (VITA 57)

FMC modules enable I/O devices that reside on an industry standard (VITA 57) mezzanine card to be attached to, and directly controlled by FPGAs that reside on a host board. About half the size of a PMC mezzanine module, FMCs provide a small footprint, reduced I/O bottlenecks, increased flexibility, and reduced cost through the elimination of redundant interfaces. To maximize data throughput and minimize latency, the FMC connector provides numerous I/O pins that support high-speed signals for moving data between the FMC and the FPGA.

Pricing for FMC-XCLK2 starts at $4,995 US. Availability is Q1, 2010.
