BROOKLINE, MA – July 18, 2005 – Macraigor Systems LLC today announced additional support for several new processors in the Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) [NASDAQ:AMCC] PowerPC 440 family. Debugging and control of these chips will be supported by all Macraigor debug solutions when used with the OCDemon family of products. The OCDemon products offer the industry’s most advanced, yet price-sensitive solution for designing, debugging and programming embedded hardware and application software.

Macraigor has added support for the AMCC PowerPC 440GP, 440EP and 440GX processors and has also updated their free, pre-built Gnu tools suite to include example configurations for the AMCC Bamboo, Yosemite, Ebony and Ocotea evaluation boards. These examples contain source, gdbinit and make files for each board. The demo program can be built, downloaded and debugged via gdb using only two commands. In addition, Macraigor has committed to supporting future AMCC PowerPC 400 variants as they become available.

Charlie Ashton, director of PowerPC Software for AMCC, commented, “Developers need a full-featured alternative to more expensive JTAG emulators. Macraigor’s OCDemon family of products offers an extensive feature set and robust debug capabilities geared for complex designs.“

Macraigor Systems’ debugging solutions include a broad range of hardware interface devices and application programs. This provides embedded systems engineers with a high degree of flexibility in selecting a host interface and an appropriate price/performance ratio for their embedded projects. Hardware debug devices are available with parallel, serial, USB or Ethernet connectivity to both Windows and Linux host machines.

Debug application programs are available to support an embedded project through the entire development cycle, from troubleshooting a prototype hardware design to writing and debugging boot code, programming in-circuit Flash devices, developing application-level software and supporting manufacturing burn-in and testing.

About the AMCC 440 Processors

Designed for high-bandwidth networking applications, the AMCC 440GX offers clock speeds up to 800MHz and provides a rich complement of on-chip peripherals, including DDR SRAM, PCI-X, four Ethernet interfaces, and hardware acceleration for TCP/IP. The AMCC 440GP, meanwhile, combines a maximum clock speed of 500MHz with low power dissipation, a small form factor, and on-chip peripherals that include DDR SDRAM, PCI-X, and Ethernet. With speeds of up to 533MHz and a rich peripheral mix, AMCC’s PowerPC 440EP is suited for a variety of embedded applications. Its extensive feature set and robust debug capabilities are geared to real-time and other high-performance operating environments. AMCC’s 440EP supports double data rate (DDR) memory, a powerful floating-point operations unit, and USB interfaces, including USB 1.1 and USB 2.0.
