SAN JOSE, CA–November 3, 2008–Quantum3D, Inc., a leading provider of Commercial off-the-Shelf (COTS) real-time visual computing solutions, today announced that Northrop Grumman Corporation has upgraded the image generator in its Pilot Evaluation Simulator(PES) for the B-2 stealth bomber. Northrop Grumman is leveraging Quantum3D’s Independence 3500 solution, an upgrade from its previous installation of the Independence 2500 in early-2005. Quantum3D’s Independence will be available at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) 2008, booth 1501.

The upgrade means that the PES will benefit from a higher performance simulator with a greater polygon count. These improvements include volumetric clouds and other enhanced weather plug-ins provided by Quantum3D’s Mantis software, such as shader-based rendering for enhanced lighting effects and anisotropic filtering for more realistic surface effects. The net result will be industry-leading performance and features with image quality sustained at a 60 Hz frame rate.

“Northrop Grumman’s Pilot Evaluation Simulator for the B-2 stealth bomber is one of the cutting edge military applications for the high-end Independence line of image generators,” said Brian Overy, VP Sales at Quantum3D. “We are proud to be working with Northrop Grumman on this important project and to support the U.S. military’s B-2 stealth bomber. Northrop Grumman’s upgrade to Independence 3500 has allowed them to create more realistic and precise training simulations that will benefit both the pilots and the broader public by saving on the expense and danger of risky, real-world training.”

The Independence 3500 IG features NVIDIA QuadroFX Graphics Subsystems configured in a unique system-level, parallel-rendering architecture. Additionally, the technology insertion provides Northrop Grumman with the use of open standards (such as the Common IG Interface standard for host interfaces and gigabit Ethernet).

Interested parties are encouraged to visit booth #1501 at Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) 2008 on December 1-4 in Orlando, FL, or contact the company directly at [email protected] or +1 (770) 924-4690.
