Bohemia, NY – July 28, 2005 – North Atlantic Industries (NAI) has announced the availability of a high power-density, low profile, AC/DC and DC/DC power supply for VME, VXI, and General Purpose applications. The 57S81 provides up to 500 Watts of output power at full load over its operating temperature range of -55°C to +85°C (measured at the baseplate). It provides either 5 outputs for a VME system or 8 outputs for a VXI system. Its baseplate conduction cooled design allows it to be mounted in a VME or VXI system. It also provides ANSI/VITA power supply signaling. With its low noise output and rugged design, the 57S81 is ideally suited for military and aerospace programs, including airborne, shipboard, ground mobile and C3I applications. The 57S81 is designed and manufactured to NAVMAT component derating guidelines and each unit receives ESS screening, including burn-in and temperature cycling. The unit includes EMI filtering per MIL-STD-461D and input transient protection per MIL-STD-704.
The 57S81 operates from an input of either 115/230 Vac (single-phase) or 270 Vdc, and provides outputs of +5 Vdc, +3.3 Vdc, ±12 Vdc, and +5 Vdc (standby) for VME systems or +5 Vdc, ±12 Vdc, ±24 Vdc, -5.2 Vdc, -2.0 Vdc, and +5 Vdc (standby) for VXI systems. Efficiency is 75% typical. The unit includes numerous fault protection features, including input transient protection, continuous short circuit protection (with automatic recovery), output current limiting, and output overvoltage protection. A Power Fail Warning is provided when the input is insufficient to provide full-power output. An Output Enable is provided to disable the DC Output.
Pricing for 100 pieces of the 57S81 starts at $4200 each. Delivery is starting 12 weeks ARO.
“The 57S81 gives our customers a low profile, AC/DC and DC/DC, VME/VXI compatible Power Supply in a compact, rugged package,” said Mike Oliveri, VP of Sales and Marketing at NAI. “They particularly like its built-in EMI Filtering, transient protection, and fault protection.”
