Billerica, MA: November 8th, 2005: Providing the first evidence of the company’s recent public commitment to the PowerPC roadmap for future generations of product, Radstone Embedded Computing today announced upgrades to the PPC7D single board computer and the G4DSP-XE Quad PowerPC processor. Both are form, fit and function compatible with their predecessors, and offer industry-leading price/performance. The PPC7D now features the 1.4 GHz MPC7448 processor from Freescale, as does the G4DSP-XD3. Both products now also feature the Marvell Discovery III system controller.

The PowerXtreme PPC7D is Radstone’s flagship VMEbus single board computer, and is the fifth generation of an architecture that was first defined ten years ago. Upgrade to the PowerPC 7448 processor delivers an anticipated average 40% additional processing power compared with its predecessor, while implementation of the Marvell Discovery III delivers further throughput enhancements. The PPC7D now features a silicon combination that is unbeaten by any competing products in the market today.
“In line with our policy of not announcing products until delivery dates can be precisely forecast, we have delayed announcement of the uprated PPC7D until we were certain that production quantities of the 7448 processor could be assured,” said Richard Kirk, Product Manager, Processors at Radstone Embedded Computing. “Now, we have a single board computer that leads the market in price/performance, while offering an excellent technology insertion opportunity for our customers.”
Also receiving an upgrade from the PowerPC 7447A to the PowerPC 7448 processor is the PowerXpress PPC8A Single Board Computer. Radstone is now able to offer 7448 processing power across all its major platforms including 6U VME (PPC7D and PPC8A), 6U CompactPCI (CP1A) and 3U CompactPCI (IMP2A).

Radstone’s G4DSP-XD3 features four MPC7448 processors, operating at 1.4 GHz, and also now includes the Marvell Discovery III system controller. Its unique AccelerX loosely coupled PCI-X architecture allows the simultaneous operation of the four independent node-to-node PCI-X buses. The result of AccelerX is 3.2 GBytes/second peak onboard data transfer bandwidth (simultaneous). Additionally, the implementation of four 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet ports enables independent and simultaneous code development on each compute node. This upgrade is only the first of a series of planned enhancements which will see the G4DSP-XD3 far surpass competing products in terms of performance, functionality and flexibility. The G4DSP-XD3 is already competitively advantaged by the availability of Radstone’s AXIS Advanced Multiprocessor Integrated Software and StarSwitch StarFabric interconnect board which together enable multiple G4DSP-XD3s to be simply and efficiently combined into highly scalable multiprocessor solutions.

The upgraded version of the PPC7D will ship around the turn of the year while the G4DSP-XD3 is expected to ship by March 2006.
