Inder Singh, who was a founder of Lynx Real Time Systems (later renamed LynuxWorks) in 1988, had served as the company's CEO since its inception. A member of Yale's first-ever computer science Ph. D. class, he made the prescient decision to focus a significant part of LynuxWorks' business on the military/aerospace market in the late 1990s. He also had the vision to link Linux with the military when others in the industry considered the move unwise. Today, Linux plays a strong role in military technology.

BOSTON, MA–Sep 26, 2006 — EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE — Embarking on an exciting new chapter in company history, LynuxWorks, Inc., a world leader in the embedded software market, announced today that Gurjot Singh has been named CEO and president of the company and that his predecessor, Dr. Inder M. Singh, has stepped up to the role of LynuxWorks chairman. LynuxWorks also announced today an expanded partnership with Xilinx, Inc., and a new embedded operating system, LynxOS-SE, including integration with the Real-Time Innovations (RTI) Data Distribution Service.

Most recently the company’s COO, Gurjot Singh, will run the company’s day-to-day operations and focus on the company’s top existing markets, military/aerospace and security. His appointment comes at a critical time, as the company continues to grow in the ever-expanding embedded market. As evidence of this growth, LynuxWorks also announced today the release of a new embedded operating system, LynxOS-SE, and a strategic partnership with Xilinx. (See below for more information.)

In his new role, Inder Singh will serve as a company and industry visionary, with a particular focus on helping drive the company’s long-term strategy by identifying new growth markets that will ensure LynuxWorks remains at the forefront of open-standards based embedded software solutions.

“Our industry is exploding,” said Inder Singh, who announced the transition at the opening of the Embedded Systems Conference. “Embedded is everywhere. For me to effectively monitor industry innovation, potential new markets, and key issues such as the adoption of Linux, it became clear to me that we needed to expand our senior team — to install a successor to run the company day to day. Gurjot was the obvious choice. He’s a very different person from me, but what we share, importantly, is a passion for the embedded market and for the continued growth of LynuxWorks.”

Gurjot Singh has extensive operational and engineering experience. Aside from day-to-day operations, he will also manage LynuxWorks’ thrust into the new and growing security market.

“LynuxWorks and the embedded market are in critical growth phases, and I’m humbled the company would choose me to succeed Inder,” said Gurjot Singh. “Like him, I’ve been fascinated with how things work since I was a child. Today, I am passionate about security; it is the key to the future of the embedded space and, right now, the military/aerospace market is where security-related innovation is happening. I look forward to leading the company, its military/aerospace program and security-related efforts, and to helping Inder identify new markets to ensure LynuxWorks’ continued growth.”

Gurjot Singh has served in several roles at LynuxWorks, including COO, vice president of engineering, and director of services and marketing. Prior to joining LynuxWorks, Gurjot Singh founded iN Machines, a software development consulting firm specializing in real-time operating systems. He also oversaw product development, sales and marketing, quality assurance and customer service in previous positions at Dynatech Computer Systems and Cromemco, Inc.
