OTTAWA, ONTARIO – March 21, 2011 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, OpenVPX™, and CompactPCI® products for the rugged deployed aerospace and defense (A&D) market, has announced that the industry leading 3U OpenVPX™ VPX3-685 Secure Router is currently undergoing a stringent Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 2 cryptographic validation at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP). The VPX3-685 is a fully-featured Layer2/3 managed Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Router that features a highly integrated on-board security subsystem. Cryptographic modules such as the VPX3-685, process sophisticated, secure cryptographic algorithms that are provide products and systems with security services such as confidentiality, integrity, and authentication.
About the CMVP
The CMVP was established by NIST in order to validate cryptographic modules to the FIPS 140-2: Security Requirements for Cryptographic Modules. The CMVP is a joint effort between NIST in the U.S. and Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC) in Canada. Those modules successfully validated as conforming to FIPS 140-2 are accepted by both countries’ Federal Agencies for the protection of sensitive information. Furthermore, CMVP cryptographic validation is also anticipated to meet many NATO country requirements for secure information technology-related applications.
To validate the VPX3-685’s cryptographic function, CWECEC is working closely with Corsec Security Inc., an independent, accredited Cryptographic and Security Testing (CST) laboratory. “Government agencies have stringent requirements on purchasing network security products and are mandated to use only approved products which have achieved FIPS 140-2 validation to ensure that the security claims stated are valid,” according to Matthew Appler, CEO and co-founder of Corsec Security. “Undergoing this complex government security standard clearly demonstrates Curtiss-Wright’s strong commitment to providing customers with proven third-party assurance regarding the VPX3-685.”
About the VPX3-685
The VPX3-685, is a rugged OpenVPX®-compliant 3U VPX card. It can be configured with up to 20 GbE interfaces. It also provides up to two (2) 10GbE ports to support switch-to-switch expansion, dual-redundant networks (fail-over), or for architecting high-performance 10Gb/s network backbones.
The VPX3-685 speeds and simplifies the integration of secure GbE switching and routing into embedded systems designed for harsh environment applications. Targeting highly secure IPv4/v6 Intra-Platform Networks (IPNs), the VPX3-685 is designed to prevent unauthorized access to critical information.
