Boulder, CO – August 15, 2007 – ITT Visual Information Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of ITT Corporation, (NYSE: ITT), announced the release of IDL 6.4 software, the latest version of its premier data visualization and analysis environment. IDL 6.4 delivers new functionality and enhancements that provide modern, flexible access to data, powerful visualization capabilities, and advanced presentation functionality.
IDL 6.4 provides new data transfer utilities that improve the ability for users to quickly and easily access a wide variety of data. With IDL 6.4, IDL users can receive data from remote servers and write data files to a disk at a remote location using the most common protocols, such as HTTP and FTP. In addition, IDL 6.4 introduces support that allows IDL users to query and retrieve remote data from Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geodatabases directly from within IDL.
Other featured IDL 6.4 functionality includes enhanced visualization and presentation capabilities. IDL now expands the ability to access the power of modern graphics cards with support for the OpenGL Shading Language, which off-loads computationally intensive image processing operations to a graphics card and dramatically increases rendering speeds. The release also includes several advancements to the IDL image processing engine, such as color mapping functions, new edge detection filters, noise functions, and GIF support for transparency and animations, as well as improvements to iTools – the set of interactive utilities that combine data analysis and visualization with presentation-quality graphics.
“The means by which people access, retrieve, transfer, and analyze their data is rapidly changing and evolving,” said IDL Product Manager Bill Okubo. “Continuing to provide IDL users with modern, advanced data access, analysis, and visualization capabilities was a top priority for IDL 6.4, and will remain important for future releases.”
