Sundance PARS Tool Takes Simulated Models Directly to Parallel DSP and FPGA

RENO, NEVADA, – Sundance, a worldwide supplier and manufacturer of advanced digital signal processing (DSP) and reconfigurable computing platforms, advanced IP cores, libraries and tools today announced the availability of its powerful development tool designed to target parallel systems comprised of DSPs and FPGAs. Parallel Application from Rapid Simulation (PARS) is a toolbox for The MathWorks MATLAB® and Simulink®. This enabling technology allows a user to design an entire system within the MATLAB and Simulink environment and then automatically generate code for target DSPs and FPGAs in the system. Thanks to 3L Diamond, the resulting single application file will contain all the code for every DSP and FPGA within the system and all the necessary booting and distribution information.

PARS was originally designed as part of a development contract for the US Navy and is now available to all users wishing to develop complex applications targeting parallel platforms. The entire application development is based on the graphical user interface offered by MATLAB and Simulink. Users with limited knowledge of parallel processing and DSP/FPGA technologies can now leverage PARS to quickly generate working parallel applications. This is particularly valuable for rapid prototyping and for shortening product time-to-market.

“As a member of the TI DSP Third Party Network, Sundance continues to deliver robust solutions that allow developers to take advantage of the performance of TI’s digital signal processors,” said Ram Sathappan, worldwide solutions marketing manager, TI. “Sundance’s software tools simplify system development, which is a key factor in reducing development cost and time–to-market.”

“Sundance continues to deliver innovative FPGA/DSP co-processing solutions that leverage Xilinx and TI products”, commented Narinder Lall, senior DSP marketing manager, at Xilinx. “What’s more is that Sundance also understands the need to simplify design methodologies for engineers developing these solutions. PARS continues along this vector” added Lall.

Currently PARS can operate on PCs with Windows XP operating system. There are also plans to support it on other platforms over a period of time.

PARS is currently being used in designing a complex software defined radio system, but can equally be used for designing other sophisticated applications.

“This toolbox is a powerful addition to our extensive family of software products. This can serve as a new vehicle for Sundance and its customers penetrating new markets. Sundance has already been approached by at least one major chip manufacture to port PARS to their design environment, which we are very excited about,” explains Leila Nakhaee, marketing manager, Sundance DSP in Reno, Nevada.

PARS is priced at $8000 dollar for single user licenses and for multi-user licenses price is dependent on the number of seats and is negotiable.
