Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), Cranston, RI, launches two new configurations of the desktop Model 4149 very high speed, ruggedized ST Fiber-to-RS485/422/232 Interface converter. The new Model 4159 board version features front-mounting threaded brackets for rack mounting in embedded applications. The Model 4149-DIN provides an enclosure and all the mounting hardware and brackets for easy installation in a DIN-rail application.

With its integrated rate buffering, these three configurations are members of Electro Standards Laboratories family of rugged fiber-to-copper media converters. The units operate from -40°C to +85°C with typical operating speeds up to 1.5 Mbps for RS232 to fiber conversion and up to 5 Mbps for RS485/422 to fiber conversion.

The Models 4149, 4149-DIN, and 4159 (board) are ideal as a point-to-point communication link between the RS485/422/232 interface ports of two PC’s, or as an isolated high speed communication link between a PC and a fiber serial interface/network up to 5 Mbps. All three models feature protection circuitry on all receivers and transmitters for both RS232 and RS485/422 interfaces. The units’ power input is protected from transients and features 3kVDC isolation to prevent system ground loops. Features include user-selectable fiber polarity, dual DB9 power connectors (board only Model 4159) for convenience in bused power applications, Tx, Rx and Power indicator LEDs.
