September 18, 2007—LeCroy Corporation (LCRY), a leading supplier of oscilloscopes and serial data test solutions, today introduced their next-generation high-performance traffic generator and exerciser for PCI Express 2.0. The
Summit Z2-16 Exerciser offers powerful testing capabilities for developing script-level traffic generation, while offering a wide range of pre-programmed manual test features for root complex and end point device testing. When used in combination with the PETracer Gen2 Summit Analyzer (available since last year), the systems deliver a comprehensive analysis and testing solution capable of assisting developers with early validation of product designs, interoperability stress testing and a preparation tool for compliance testing.
PCI Express 2.0 is a new standard approved by the PCI-SIG®, the Special Interest Group responsible for PCI Express industry-standard I/O technology. PCI Express 2.0 increases the data rates available to users from 2.5 GT/s to 5 GT/s in a seamless and compatible manner. The new data rate effectively increases the aggregate bandwidth of a 16-lane link to approximately 16 GB/s. The higher bandwidth will also allow product designers to implement narrower interconnect links to achieve high performance while reducing cost.
The Summit Z2-16 Exerciser features script-level traffic generation, manual error injection and extensive exerciser capabilities, including end point emulation. Engineers developing products for the new PCI Express 2.0 standard are provide the ability to simulate performance of other devices, to generate test and error conditions to ensure reliability of new designs, and to identify and resolve protocol errors during operation. When used in combination with a PETracer analyzer, the integrated system allows engineers to generate reliable and repeatable traffic and concurrently record and analyze responses from other devices on the link.
“The Summit Z2-16 Exerciser builds on our extensive experience providing high-performance traffic generators and exercisers to our PCI Express customers.” said John Wiedemeier, Product Marketing Manager, Protocol Solutions Group, LeCroy Corporation. “We are strongly committed to the success of this new standard by providing the key enabling development test tools. Test labs today demand comprehensive test solutions that can encompass corner case testing all the way to routine device emulation for interoperability testing, while making it simpler to create the tests. Combining increased functionality with ease-of-use for testing and analysis has been our primary goal for this tool.”
“We are excited to see the numerous applications based on PCI Express 2.0 that are currently in development.” said Jim Pappas, Director of Technology Initiatives for Intel’s Enterprise Platform Group. ”Maintaining system reliability and interoperability between vendors at these PCI Express second generation signal speeds will require tools that support the higher data rates.”
LeCroy protocol analyzers and exercisers have been at the forefront of PCI Express development tools. All LeCroy protocol analyzers feature a hierarchical display, real-time statistics, protocol traffic summaries, detailed error reports, powerful scripting, and the ability to create user-defined test reports, which allow developers to troubleshoot intricate problems and reduce development time of complex serial data designs.
