“Texas Instruments typifies the high caliber of the RapidIO ecosystem, a group of leading device, system and software manufacturers dedicated to making a tangible investment in delivering RapidIO-based products to market,” said Iain Scott, executive director of the RapidIO Trade Association. “Their introduction of the C6455 DSP, one of a host of new RapidIO-based products slated for 2005, exemplifies the performance, reliability and flexibility delivered by RapidIO solutions for embedded applications.”
The C6455 DSP, offers improved performance, reduced code size plus more on-chip memory and high bandwidth integrated peripherals. Its integrated industry-standard Serial RapidIO bus decreases overall system cost by reducing the need for additional devices used for switching and processor aggregation. The Serial RapidIO interconnect enables high- speed, packet-switched peer-to-peer connectivity.Serial RapidIO thus makes it much easier to implement multi- processing, providing a performance breakthrough for multi- channel implementations on multiple processors. For video infrastructure applications, a 1x Serial RapidIO link is fast enough to send high-definition (HD) 1080i raw video between devices and a 4x Serial RapidIO link can easily send HD 1080p raw video between devices with bandwidth to spare. The use of Serial RapidIO in infrastructure applications with large “DSP farms” will allow the reduction of system cost (device count, board size and/or device cost) for OEM customers. For more information, please see: www.ti.com/c6455dsppr.
The RapidIO Interconnect Architecture, the only open standard designed specifically for embedded applications, is compatible with the most popular integrated communications processors, host processors, and networking digital signal processors, is a high-performance, packet-switched, interconnect technology. It addresses the high-performance embedded industry’s need for reliability, increased bandwidth, and faster bus in an inter and intra-system interconnect. The RapidIO interconnect allows chip-to-chip and board-to-board communications at performance levels scaling to 10 Gigabits per second and beyond. Designed specifically to achieve high-performance, low-cost, reliable and scalable system connectivity in embedded, networking, and communications devices, the RapidIO specification is an established internationalstandard that continues to be embraced by communications systems OEMs, computer systems manufacturers and silicon vendors around the world.
About The RapidIO Trade Association The RapidIO Trade Association and its global members drive the RapidIO interconnect architecture. This ISO-certified, open-standard seamlessly enables the chip-to-chip, board-to- board, control, backplane and data plane interconnections needed in high-performance networking, communications and embedded systems. RapidIO-based products are shipping now, including silicon chips, boards and systems. Detailed information on the RapidIO specification, products, design tools, member companies, and membership is available at www.RapidIO.org.
