ALBUQUERQUE, NM, JANUARY 15, 2007 Following its acquisition of Radstone Embedded Computing, and confirming and extending the commitment to the VPX standard first announced in May 2006 by Radstone, GE Fanuc Embedded Systems today announced three new members of its 3U VPX family at the Bus & Board Conference in Long Beach, California this week.

The SBC330 is a PowerPC 8641D-based single board computer; the SDD910 is a SATA disk drive module; and the PEX430 serves as both 4-port, 4-lane PCI Express switch and as a PMC/XMC carrier card. The three new products join the previously-announced SBC340 single board computer based on Intel Core Duo technology; the GRA110 graphics processor, featuring the NVIDIA G73 GPU; and the GBX410 16-port Gigabit Ethernet switch. Radstone Embedded Computing announced the first products in its 6U VPX family in November.

“It’s important to know that we have whole-heartedly embraced 3U VPX not just because it is an industry standard, but because we firmly believe that it delivers significant benefits in terms of the leading edge performance, compact size, low weight and the flexibility that our customers demand,” said Simon Collins, Product Manager at GE Fanuc Embedded Systems.

“It is now possible for prime contractors and application developers to configure a complete 3U VPX system from GE Fanuc Embedded Systems that delivers the processing, graphics and communications power required by today’s most demanding military computing applications,” he continued. “Those companies to whom we have already exposed the breadth of our 3U VPX capability have, without exception, expressed great enthusiasm for what we are doing.”

The inclusion of a PowerPC 8641D-based single board computer makes the 3U VPX format even more attractive to companies and programs that have previously made extensive use of the PowerPC architecture, complementing and providing an alternative to the SBC340 Intel processor-based single board computer. The SBC330 features x8 PCI Express fabric, two Gigabytes of memory, and two Gigabit Ethernet ports.

Sdd910

The SDD910 is a solid state memory device with a SATA disk interface, and is designed for rugged environments (MIL-STD-810F) with rotary drive options available for benign environments. With an initial capacity up to 128 Gigabytes, the SDD910 has a sustained read speed of up to 45 Megabytes/second, and a sustained write speed of up 40 Megabytes/second.

Pex430

Providing the dual functionality of both a PCI Express switch and a PMC/XMC carrier card, the PEX430 in its PCI Express switch mode of operation enables the development of systems using multiple processors. As a PMC/XMC carrier, the PEX430’s 4-lane PCI Express to PCI-X bridge allows a broad range of I/O devices to be attached (including legacy devices), with I/O configurable from the mezzanine via the VPX backplane.

Availability of the three new 3U VPX products is scheduled for mid-2007.
