OTTAWA, CANADA – December 23, 2010 – Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEC), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, OpenVPX™ and CompactPCI products for the rugged deployed aerospace and defense market today reported that it has seen significant growth in market adoption and the shipment of centralized VPX systems featuring its OpenVPX™ (VITA 65) centralized switching cards, such as the 6U VPX6-684 and 3U VPX3-683 FireBlade™ Ethernet Switch/ Routers and the VPX6-6902 Serial RapidIO + Ethernet Switch, which are used as communicaitons backbones in these systems.

“The embedded military market has been quick to embrace OpenVPX as the system approach for designing highly integrated and connected processing platforms,” said Lynn Bamford, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “As a result, we are seeing substantial growth in shipments of our rugged OpenVPX network switch cards that serve as the communications backbone in these systems.”

About CWCEC Centralized Switching Modules

CWCEC offers several centralized switching modules that can function as the communications backbone in OpenVPX-based systems.

For OpenVPX control and management, CWCEC offers the VPX6-684 FireBlade Ethernet Switch and Router, which provides up to 24 ports of Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) along with 4 ports of 10 GbE to the backplane. With a rich set of Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing features, the VPX6-684 functions as a non-blocking centralized network router, connecting system modules together to form a high-performance computing platform. With optional optical interfaces and a dedicated CryptoNet™ network security module, the 684 FireBlade is ideally suited to build intra-platform networks (IPN) with protected interfaces to an outside network.

Offering what the company believes to be the highest port density in the industry, the VPX3-683 FireBlade provides the same rich feature set as the 684 in a small form factor 3U OpenVPX compliant card. The 3U and 6U FireBlade models both support IPv4 and IPv6 for compatibility with future networking systems, and conform to OpenVPX specifications, making them ideal building blocks for next generation embedded control and computing systems.

For combined data plane and control/management switching, CWCEC offers the VPX6-6902 Serial RapidIO + Ethernet switch. With the industry’s highest single-slot bandwidth and port density, the VPX6-6902 provides up to 28 ports of centralized SRIO switching with port speeds up to 20Gbps per x4 port, for a total bandwidth of over 1.1 terabits of aggregate non-blocking SRIO data. The VPX6-6902 also provides up to 23 ports of GbE and 2 ports of 10GbE switching for control and management planes. Supporting multiple OpenVPX profiles and occupying a single slot, the VPX6-6902 speeds and simplifies the integration of star, dual-star, and redundant network architectures for high-performance SIGINT and DSP systems.
