National Technical Systems, Inc. (NTS) (NASDAQ:NTSC), a leading provider of quality and conformance testing and managed services, announced today that its Boxborough, Fullerton and Plano facilities are now equipped to offer high-level electromagnetic interference testing for electronics and avionics. The new capability simulates high intensity radar sweeps encountered in hostile combat areas and commercially when crossing radar beams on final approach to an airport. The multimillion dollar expansion was started in 2003 and included the installation of several new walk-in 7,000 cubic foot, shielded rooms and sophisticated signal generators and RF-power amplifiers with frequency outputs ranging from10 kHz to 40 GHz. Fifteen experienced technical staff members conduct the testing programs and provide engineering support.

The range of equipment that can be tested to the MIL-STD 461 and RTCA DO160 specifications include Shipboard equipment, ground-based equipment, navigation and control systems, engines and power systems, airborne weapon platforms and communication systems for aircraft, unmanned airborne vehicles, missiles and smart munitions. Because the electronics are typically operational during the test, NTS also provides aircraft electrical power sources (shipboard, airborne, and ground power), engine exhaust systems, thermal monitoring systems and other pertinent test accessories. The largest of the electrically shielded rooms measures 40′ x 30′ x 20′ with doublewide doors for large systems or complete missiles.

“We have already tested numerous military systems at these facilities,” notes James Press, NTS National Director of EMC/EMI. “NTS can also provide complete dynamic and environmental testing, which makes it very convenient for those customers conducting a full qualification program.”

National Technical Systems offers a full range of electromagnetic, dynamic, environmental, and computer hardware and software testing in accordance with both commercial and military specifications. NTS certifies products and systems ranging from central office telecom equipment and industrial electronics to communication satellites and classified military weapons systems. All major regulatory bodies recognize NTS certifications and test reports. Design analysis and product enhancement engineering services are also available. NTS Laboratories are located across the United States and Canada, with additional test facilities in Vietnam, Japan and Germany.
