Jacksonville, FL – Nov. 12, 2007 – CMX Systems today announced the availability of its CMX-RTX real time operating system (RTOS) plus the CMX-MicroNet TCP/IP stack for the new PIC32 32-bit microcontroller family from Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors. This extends CMXs support of Microchips 16-bit families, allowing users to easily move between families.

“Running CMX on the PIC32 microcontroller produced extremely short context switching and interrupt latency cycles counts,” said Chuck Behrmann, CEO of CMX. “Were excited to offer this combination to cost-conscious designers who need more performance.”

CMX-RTX is a truly preemptive, multi-tasking RTOS, supporting a wide variety of 8-, 16-, 32-bit microcontrollers, microprocessors and DSPs. CMX-RTX offers the smallest footprint, the fastest context switching times, and the lowest interrupt latency times available on the market today. RTOS functionality provided in CMX-RTX includes: task management, message management, queue management, system management, event management, memory management, resource management, semaphore management and timer management. ROM requirements are approximately 2.5K minimum to maximum 5.5K (MIPS16) and 2.5K mimimum to 8K maximum (MIPS32).

“CMX-RTX and CMX-MicroNet provide a powerful suite of embedded software for designers using the PIC32 family,” said Patrick Johnson, director of Microchips High Performance Microcontroller Division. “Our continuing relationship with CMX Systems means that Microchips 32-bit and 16-bit customers can benefit from the expanded capability in real-time and/or networking applications.”

CMX-RTX includes the RTOS Configuration Manager, an intuitive Windows GUI that simplifies RTOS configuration. The kernel awareness within Microchips MPLAB® Integrated Development Environment provides the developer with the ability to view kernel objects.

CMX-MicroNet is a TCP/IP stack specially crafted to work with virtually all processors, and features an extremely small ROM requirement ranging from about 8K to 24K (depending on configuration and processor) and very minimal RAM requirements of about 500 bytes, plus buffers for packets. The base CMX-MicroNet software package currently includes UDP, TCP, IP, Modem, SLIP, ICMP Echo, IGMP, a Virtual File system and an intuitive Windows GUI Configuration Manager. Base software also includes choice of PPP or Ethernet.

CMX-MicroNet offers only industry-standard protocols, and has been tested and proven in hundreds of designs worldwide. Add-on networking options available are: HTTP Web Server, DNS Client, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, DHCP Client, TFTP Client, Fragmentation, SNTP, POP3, PPP, CHAP, Ethernet (ARP, BOOTP) and Wireless Ethernet. The CMX-MicroNet stack can work with or without an RTOS. CMX-MicroNet also offers portable drivers for a wide range of integrated and external Ethernet MAC controllers, including Microchips ENC28J60.

All CMX products feature full source code, no royalties, and free technical support and updates with every purchase. CMX-RTX and CMX-MicroNet for PIC32 microcontrollers is available now from CMX Systems and its distributors. Contact CMX Systems at 904-880-1840 or email [email protected].
