Ivyland, PA, June 2005 — ACT/Technico (www.acttechnico.com), a leading supplier of integrated real-time and embedded systems built with VMEbus, CompactPCI, and other open architecture platforms, announces a robust new system platform for VME based 2eSST implementation.
The 2eSST (two edge source synchronous transfer) protocol enables the VMEbus to run at a bandwidth of up to 320MB/s down the full length of a 21 slot backplane, effectively providing a performance increase of 8x over the 40MB/s transfer rate of VME64, and is actually three times faster than a multi-domain, 64-bit/66 MHz CPCIbus. The protocol also supports a Broadcast Mode for sending data to multiple cards at one time.
ACT/Technico’s 2eSST System Platform provides a ready to go solution, with all the tools to implement 2eSST technology on a VME64x platform. It is an ideal solution for system upgrades, as it is backward compatible with all legacy VMEbus cycles (VME32, VME64, VME64x). The 2eSST System Platform is the perfect solution for new designs where the data and control planes still utilize the VMEbus and high
performance is required. It is perfectly suited for implementing data intensive designs such as command and control, image processing and high performance industrial automation applications. It significantly improves time to market, without losing access to current and legacy investments.
ACT/Technico’s 2eSST System Platform provides the developer with all the tools necessary to get an application up and running. It comes standard in a high quality, rugged 4U chassis with six VME64x slots, 80mm rear transition slots, and dual hot swap 350W power supplies. A Motorola® MVME6100 Single Board Computer is included: it is a full featured board using a powerful MPC7457 PowerPC® processor running at 1.267 GHz, the Tundra TSi148 2eSST interface chip, and a new Texas Instruments transceiver that enables backward VMEbus compatibility. The board has two PMC-X sites, which can be utilized with a PrPMC for multiprocessing without hindering the performance of the main processor. A direct plug, 80 mm transition module provides a robust and secure solution for rear I/O requirements. The system is shipped pre-configured with a choice of VxWorks, LynxOS, or Linux, and all appropriate drivers.
Optional 10/100/1000 Ethernet switches, 2eSST PMC/PrPMC Carrier boards, and a wide range of PMC solutions for storage, audio/video, etc. can be added and configured in the system. The boards can be conformally coated, and the complete system can be ruggedized per MIL STDs 810F, 901D and 167 for use in specific target application environments.
