Wind River Platform for Network Equipment is a DSO solution that enables companies to decrease time-to-market and improve quality for a variety of devices, from expensive chassis-based carrier-class equipment to resource-constrained, price-sensitive consumer electronics products. Based on a Carrier Grade Linux distribution, Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition, has been integrated with many of the industry’s most popular telecom boards, making it an ideal fit for the telecommunications and high-end data networking markets. It supports the emerging PICMG 3.x Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) specification and various high-availability functions, and includes a standards-based interprocess communication (IPC) mechanism that connects the Linux and VxWorks editions of the platform.

“As Wind River’s DSO customers demand higher levels of power and performance, Wind River’s Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition provides a commercial grade solution,” said John Bruggeman, CMO of Wind River. “Built upon the Linux 2.6 kernel along with Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) Carrier Grade Linux 3.0 specification, the performance benefits of Wind River’s Linux Platform and Intel’s new dual-core processor, provide our joint customers with a standards-based solution which will optimize their networking applications.”

“Our new dual core processor provides significant improvements in performance per watt for customers who are developing demanding network access applications,” said Ton Steenman, general manager of Intel’s Infrastructure Processor Division. “And the availability of out-of-the box, dual-core ready software, like the Wind River Linux-based device software platform, means our customers can speed development of higher performing networking solutions based on industry standards such as AdvancedTCA and Carrier-Grade Linux.”

As part of its complete network infrastructure solution, Wind River now offers a Network Infrastructure Services Practice, with professional outsourcing and consulting services specifically designed to help device manufacturers meet strict market deadlines while keeping development costs down. Services include device design, network management and security, network compliance testing, wireless networking support, layer 2 Ethernet switching, BSP/LSP and device driver optimization, legacy application and infrastructure migration, Linux migration and real-time best practices.

Wind River is an Associate Member of the Intel® Communications Alliance, a community of communications and embedded developers and solutions providers.
