Quantum3D, Inc., a leading provider of Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) real-time visual computing solutions, today announced that its Independence 2000TI technology insertion plan has delivered 100 percent availability for the F-15E Mission Training Center in Suffolk, United Kingdom. The training center, a project of the U.S. Air Force and The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA], began operations in April 2008 and has supported more than 400 training missions with 100 percent availability.

The training center provides two high-fidelity, dual-cockpit F-15E simulators, each with a 360-degree visual system and synthetic environment. Designed to enable pilots to “train as they fight,” the simulators require three dimensional imagery at a sustained rate of 60Hz. The Independence image generator has successfully achieved this high bar for quality—an important requirement for a system that is designed to improve pilot readiness without having to expose them to the dangers of real-world fighting.

Brian Overy, vice president of Sales at Quantum3D and the company’s project manager for this Independence implementation, noted the importance of training simulators to ensure the readiness of our nation’s military pilots. “The Boeing-U.S. Air Force training center is a demanding implementation. The 360-degree simulators ensure an exceptionally realistic flight training experience for the Air Force pilots, but they also expose even minor flaws in the graphics generated to simulate a mission. That the center has achieved 100 percent availability in its first year of operations is a testament to the engineers responsible for building the system—including our own image generation engineers.”
