Mainz / Dättwil, July 16, 2008 — SYSGO today announced the availability of PikeOS on MPL’s ruggedized PIP10 platform, enabling the use of virtualization technologies in extreme environments. PikeOS allows multiple operating system APIs to run concurrently on one hardware platform, such as POSIX, Linux, and Java, thus supporting the effort of industrial manufacturers to reuse legacy code in long product lifecycles.

“Through its unique virtualization technology, PikeOS offers a powerful potential of reduction in cost and time for software-intensive products, and products with long lifecycles,” explains Jacques Brygier, Vice President Marketing of SYSGO. “Virtualization allows the reuse of well tested existing applications in combination with new functionality without loss of performance.” MPL is equally satisfied about the collaboration with SYSGO: “We are proud that PikeOS, an embedded microkernel system running multiple virtual machines, is ported to the fanless PIP (Packaged Industrial PC) series designed for demanding and rugged environments and applications,” said Roger Frei, Product Manager of MPL at Dättwil.

In the initial joint project, the installation of PikeOS together with PIP10 is used in a safety-critical application for drive assistance in a huge excavator. The success of this collaboration enhances new Design- In possibilities for both companies in similar projects, where safety- critical control functions play an important role in rugged applications.”

The supported personalities include PikeOS Native, ARINC-653, Linux, POSIX and OSEK, as well as personalities involving partners or third-parties like Java, Ada, µITRON, CoDeSys, and FidelityVCF.

About PikeOS

PikeOS is an innovative product providing an embedded systems platform where multiple virtual machines can run simultaneously in a secure environment. The secure virtualization technology allows multiple operating system APIs to run concurrently on one machine, e.g. an ARINC-653 application together with Linux. The PikeOS microkernel architecture allows it to be used in cost sensitive; resource constrained devices as well as large, complex systems. The simplicity and compactness of the PikeOS design result in real-time performance that competes head-to-head with conventional proprietary RTOS solutions.
