DDC-I Announces Safety-Critical Migration Path for Wind River Users Targeting Non-Intel Platforms

Phoenix, AZ. June 17, 2009. DDC-I, a leading supplier of software products and professional services for mission- and safety-critical applications, today announced its Wind Migration Package. The new package enables safety-critical developers targeting Wind River Systems’ VxWorks DO-178B Platform and VxWorks 653 to migrate their applications to Deos, the industry’s leading safety-critical real-time operating system. Now, VxWorks 653 users targeting non-Intel processors will have a long-term upgrade and support path in the wake of Intel’s recent announcement to acquire Wind River Systems.

“Due to low processor volume, FAA certifiable hardware for safety critical applications has not historically been a core market for Intel,” said Greg Rose, vice president of marketing at DDC-I. “This presents a quandary for safety-critical developers who are now using VxWorks 653 or the VxWorks DO-178B Platform. It is hard to imagine that Intel will invest in a future for these products with long-term support and enhancements, particularly for non-Intel processors. Our package lets developers migrate their safety-critical applications from VxWorks 653 to Deos, thereby giving them the long-term support and migration path they need on the CPU of their choosing.”

DDC-I’s new Wind Migration Package bundles the Deos RTOS and OpenArbor integrated development environment with comprehensive professional services. Included are options for multiple development seats for Deos and OpenArbor, certification artifacts for DO-178B, training and support, and custom consulting services for migrating applications, artifact defense with the FAA, and services for achieving DO-178B compliance. The package is available to existing customers of Wind River Systems’ DO-178B Platform or VxWorks 653 starting at under $25,000.

“Whatever the target processor,” added Rose, “Deos is the most advanced safety-critical COTS RTOS on the market, and provides the easiest, lowest cost, lowest risk path to DO-178B certification with the highest level of safety criticality. Deos has been certified to DO-178B Level A in dozens of programs, and flies on more commercial and military aircraft than any other COTS RTOS available today.”

Deos is the industry’s most robust, highest performance real-time operating system for the safety-critical market. Featuring deterministic real-time response, the memory-protected RTOS employs patented “slack scheduling” to deliver higher CPU utilization than any other safety-critical commercial off the shelf (COTS) RTOS. Deos is the only certifiable time and space (T&S) partitioned COTS RTOS built from the ground up for safety-critical applications.

Development support for Deos includes DDC-I’s Eclipse-based OpenArbor™ integrated development environment (IDE). Featuring C and C++ optimizing compilers, OpenArbor provides a color-coded source editor, project management support, automated build/make utilities, and a multi-window, symbolic debugger. The debugger recognizes C and C++ expressions and can view objects, expressions, call chains, execution traces, interspersed machine code, machine registers, and program stacks. The debugger is non intrusive, can debug at the source or machine level, and can be enabled without changing the generated code.
