City of Industry, CA – April 15, 2009 – Sans Digital, a leading provider of high functioning storage subsystems, is announcing a price-performance breakthrough by adding a RAID controller to its latest AccuSTOR AS212X2 SAS/SATA 2U 12-bay JBOD rackmount. With 1200Gb/s bandwidth when running on SATA drives and SAS interface, the AS212X2 performance bundle is capable of delivering read and write speeds of over 600MB/s under RAID 6 mode. This combination allows the AS212X2 to obtain a faster performance than existing hardware RAID rackmounts, while preserving the overall low cost to setup an enterprise-level solution.

The AS212X2 bundle is most suitable for performance-intense computing applications, such as high definition video editing that requires high transfer rates or database applications that require concentrated IO calculation. Utilizing a high performance SAS RAID controller card, the AS212X2 is able to take advantage of features such as ultra-fast 1200MHz IOP341, DDR-2 533 MHz memory and PCIe 8x interconnection link. 10K or 15K rpm SAS drives could be used in place of SATA drives for even higher sustained transfer rate or much higher random IO (IOPS), to satisfy greater performance demands. The superior read and write speeds allow the AR212X2 to be a practical alternative to previous Fibre Channel connections, which is relatively more expensive on a dollar-per-Gigabyte basis.

In addition to exceptional performance, the AS212X2 utilizes SAS expander technology where the host server could access up to 12 SATA / SAS hard drives via a single SAS cable. This series allows the connection of up to 4 AS212X2 units with 48 SATA or SAS hard drives, in a daisy-chain format. By supporting SES, the AS212X2 provides vital information to administrators, allowing detailed monitoring of power supply, cooling fan and drive status via the RAID controller. Advance hardware such as redundant power supply, hot-swappable trays and modularized components are standard parts of the design. Enterprise features such as auto rebuilding, multiple RAID volumes, online expansion, RAID roaming and RAID migration, are included in the bundle. “As data storage demand increases, SAS has become the next generation technology for direct attached storage,” said Grandy Chen, Sans Digital President. “Adding the AS212X2 to an infrastructure allows significant storage capacity increase at a low cost, while maintaining reasonable performance.” For more information on the AccuSTOR AS212X2, please visit: www.sansdigital.com/accustor/as212x2.html.
