LONG BEACH, CA — January 17, 2005 — BittWare, Inc. announced today, at the Bus and Board Conference, another addition to its T2 family of TigerSHARC boards; the T2-6U-VME (T2V6), represents the first ever COTS VME/VXS board based on the ADSP-TS201. Designed for demanding multiprocessor based applications, and targeted at a broad range of applications including radar, sonar, communications, and imaging, the T2V6 is available in both air-cooled and conduction-cooled versions and now gives VME users full access to the power of the TigerSHARC, providing optimal solutions for the most demanding of applications.

The T2V6 is a 6U VME/VXS board featuring eight 600 MHz ADSP-TS201S TigerSHARC DSPs, two Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs, a PMC+ site, 512MB of SDRAM, and over 9 GB/sec of flexible, high-throughput I/O interfaces via the front panel, VXS switch fabric, and 2eSST VME.

“The T2V6 VME/VXS board is the result of growing demand for the ADSP-TS201 in military applications,” said Jeff Milrod, President of BittWare. “Our T2 family of PCI, PMC, and cPCI, boards have been very well received, and now we can deliver the same outstanding performance in a VME form factor. No other COTS product can match the continuous I/O and real-time signal processing performance provided by the T2’s TigerSHARCs and ATLANTiS architecture.”

To take full advantage of the high-performance TigerSHARC processors, this multiprocessor board implements a unique, scalable architecture. Dubbed ATLANTiS (Advanced Transfer Link Architecture for New TigerSHARC), this flexible architecture enables system designers to easily reconfigure the I/O and communications. Implemented in Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs (XC2VP30), ATLANTiS can also be used to implement pre, post, and co-processing. By tightly integrating the DSPs, VXS switch fabric, PMC interface, and I/O peripherals with the on-board FPGA, ATLANTiS gives designers extremely flexible options for configuring, routing, and processing high-throughput I/O.

Two clusters of four ADSP-TS201S TigerSHARC DSPs from Analog Devices provide 28.8 GFLOPS of floating point processing power and 115 BOPS of 16-bit fixed-point performance. Each TigerSHARC also provides 24 Mbits of on-chip RAM, and four high-speed, LVDS link ports each running at up to 500 MB/sec full-duplex. The T2V6 uses two link ports from each DSP to create an interprocessor communications ring, with the remaining two routed to the on-board ATLANTiS FPGA, delivering 1 GB/sec of I/O per DSP.

The T2V6 boasts a tremendous amount of I/O bandwidth, throughput, and options. Included are a VME-PCI Bridge supports 2eSST, a PMC site with BittWare’s PMC+ I/O extensions, high-performance digital I/O headers, and sixteen RocketIO(tm) high-speed serial transceivers (eight to the VXS switch fabric, eight to the front panel). The dual ATLANTiS architecture adds tremendous flexibility to the T2V6, allowing system designers to configure and route the off-board I/O at over 9 GB/sec as their applications require.

BittWare’s SharcFIN PCI bridge chips, give each DSP low-overhead access to the VME bridge and PMC site via the 64-bit, 66 MHz PCI interface. Each SharcFIN also provides a general-purpose peripheral bus that allows the DSPs to access the Flash and the FPGA control registers, while also enabling host access to the DSPs, on-board SDRAM (up to 256 MB), 16 MB boot Flash, and FPGA control registers.

Complete Software Support

BittWare offers comprehensive software support for the T2V6. The BittWorks software tools provide host interface libraries and a wide variety of diagnostic utilities and configuration tools. Also available are BittWare’s TS-Lib optimized libraries for TigerSHARC, and board support package (BSP) for Gedae. Many third party tools are also available to support BittWare’s ADSP-TS201 boards, including Analog Devices’ VisualDSP++ and SDL’s DSPdeveloper target for MATLAB and Simulink. Real-time operating systems available include Analog Devices’ VisualDSP Kernel (VDK), and Enea’s OSEck RTOS.

Availability

The commercial (air cooled) version availability is scheduled for first quarter 2005. A fully rugged conduction cooled/conformal coating version will be available in the 2nd half of 2005. Pricing starts at $18,995 in single piece quantities.
