Enables Cost-Effective and Accurate Testing of Thermal Dynamics in ATR Enclosures Pre-Manufacture
Brockton, MA, March 29, 2010 – SIE Computing Solutions Inc., a provider of rugged electronic packaging solutions for mission-critical embedded computing platforms deployed in harsh environments, today announced a new ATR thermal load card designed for testing thermal dynamics in a conduction-cooled environment. The 3U x 160 mm SIE ATR thermal load card is configurable by power loads ranging from 12, 25, 50, and up to 200 watts, and can accommodate any of the common bus structures used in ATRs such as VPX, VME and CompactPCI.
The new SIE ATR card enables users to perform thermal profiling of an ATR enclosure in order to obtain empirical data on the system’s thermal load, enabling each slot in the system to be maximized. This alleviates the need to perform testing with production-grade cards, which can reduce costs by a factor of 10 or more, and enable the production of higher-quality systems in less time. Furthermore, each slot can host a thermal load card to mirror the final system configuration in order to create an integrated system thermal profile.
“The demand for higher-speed processing and higher performance, coupled with the continued pressure to keep size, weight, and cost down, have resulted in thermal issues becoming one of the most critical engineering challenges,” said Keith Vieira, engineering manager at SIE Computing Solutions. “Thermal testing is crucial to certify that an ATR system will be able to withstand harsh environmental conditions and work as planned, and the new SIE thermal load card is purpose-built to enable our customers to do just that.”
The new SIE Computing Solutions ATR thermal load card features a modular precision machined T6061 aluminum frame design that is uniquely capable of being configured with a VPX, VME or cPCI front end interface. Available for multiple power ratings with a wide variety of load cards to fit any ATR architecture, SIE’s 3U ATR thermal load cards are available now, and the company will be introducing 6U ATR thermal load cards in the near future.
