LynuxWorks LynxOS-178 Supports Curtiss-Wright SVME/DMV-183 Platform |
SAN JOSE, CA, Design West/ESC–March 28, 2012–LynuxWorks, Inc., a world leader in the embedded safety and security software market, today announced the availability of its board support package (BSP) and corresponding DO178B Level C Artifacts for the Curtiss-Wright SVME/DMV-183 rugged single-board computer. The new BSP is a part of LynxOS-178 2.2.2, the latest release of the safety critical RTOS (real-time operating system) from LynuxWorks. The BSP brings this FAA Level A certifiable RTOS to the Curtiss-Wright SMVE/DMV-183 board and adds support for both single and dual Freescale MPC7447A/7448 PowerPC (Power Architecture) processors with AltiVec technology.
LynxOS-178 is the first and only commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) operating system to receive Reusable Software Component (RSC) acceptance from the FAA for DO-178B certification. RSC certification acknowledges a speedier, smoother and more reliable development path for system integrators.
The Curtiss-Wright SVME-DMV-183 can support up to 2 GB of DDR SDRAM and represents a significant advancement in functionality and performance for rugged single-board-computers. With the release of the BSP comes the addition of full DO-178B Level C artifacts for the CPU Support Package (CSP), the Board Support Package (BSP) and the Device Resource Manager (DRM) components. When these artifacts are combined with the LynxOS-178 2.2.2 RSC artifacts a complete certification package is now available to speed customers more quickly through the DO-178B Certification process, resulting in significant cost and risk reduction.
“With this latest BSP, CSP, DRM and artifacts package, we’re offering DO-178B customers a quick migration path to next-generation PowerPC hardware resulting in more performance, more memory, and the ability to run more sophisticated avionics applications on a safety-critical OS,” said John Blevins, director of Product Marketing at LynuxWorks. “Customers that use Curtiss-Wright boards and our RTOS should feel confident and secure that they are getting the top-notch support for their hardware and software combinations for all of their safety-critical applications.”
Based on the Power Architecture, the Curtiss-Wright SVME/DMV-183 MPC7447A/7448 processor solution is a premium choice in embedded and high-performance computing. The units also feature 64 KB L1 cache, 1 MB L2 cache, three Ethernet interfaces up to Gb speed, and two 64-bit PMCs on independent PCI buses.
About LynxOS-178 RTOS
LynxOS-178 is a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) RTOS that fully satisfies the objectives of the DO-178B level A specification and meets requirements for Integrated Modular Avionics developers. LynxOS-178 delivers the security and real-time responsiveness needed for safety-critical systems and provides a low-risk path to DO-178B certification for developers to meet the technical requirements in the production of software for airborne systems. In addition, LynxOS-178 provides full POSIX conformance, enabling developers to take advantage of the time-to-market and investment-protection benefits of open standards-based development. The powerful formula of DO-178B certification and POSIX conformance allows developers to meet the most stringent requirements for real-time safety-critical applications while at the same time ensure application portability, software reuse and interoperability between embedded systems.
