EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE (ESC), BOSTON, Mass., BOOTH #1021, Sept. 13, 2005LynuxWorks Inc. (ESC Booth #1021) today announced that LynxOS v4.0, the industry’s only POSIX-conformant hard real-time operating system (RTOS), will now support the MVME6100, Motorola’s highest-performance VMEbus single-board computer.

Motorola’s MVME6100 series of VMEbus single-board computers uses the Tundra Tsi148 VMEbus interface chip to implement the 2eSST (two edge source synchronous transfer) protocol. This delivers a data transfer rate across the VMEbus roughly eight times (8x) better than the 40MB/s achieved by VME64 boards. This performance enhancement enables the MVME6100 to meet the rigorous needs of developers of mission-critical applications in the defense and aerospace industries.

“Today, our military customers require solutions that are POSIX-conformant, which provides a reduced time to market as well as helping to protect their investment in product development,” said Clayton Tucker, senior marketing manager, Embedded Communications Computing, Motorola. “The synergies between LynxOS 4.0 and our MVME6100 series provide a powerful combination for next generation mission-critical applications within the military, particularly the Navy, as well as in the aerospace industry.”

“For years we have been highly committed to Motorola’s product line, and today’s news further strengthens that relationship,” said Dr. Inder Singh, CEO and chairman of LynuxWorks. “VME support is absolutely essential to military and aerospace customers, so our expanded support of Motorola’s hardware platform will serve to accelerate the tremendous momentum we already have underway in those important market segments.”

Over the last 16 years, LynuxWorks has been committed to the POSIX (Portable Operating System Interface) standard. POSIX support assures code portability between systems and is increasingly mandated for commercial applications and government contracts. The LynxOS real-time operating system is certified POSIX-conformant and also supports all of the routines in POSIX.1b and POSIX.1c.
