FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz., Nov. 1, 2012 – OpenSystems Media (OSM), LLC, today announced that EDA Digest magazine has awarded three Top Innovator awards to members of the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) community. The inaugural issue of EDA Digest, which also features the 2012 EDA Resource Guide, spotlights Dr. Chi-Ping Hsu of Cadence Design Systems, Dr. John Sanguinetti of Forte Design Systems, and Mentor Graphics’ Calibre Development Team for innovative contributions that have aided to advancement of the EDA industry.
The 2012 Top Innovators in EDA winners were chosen from dozens of entries representing thought leaders in the field of EDA. Editorial Director Mike Demler and the EDA Digest editorial staff poured over these submissions in search of candidates that have made significant advances in both the foundation and evolution of design automation, and have pushed EDA towards solutions sub-20 nm processes.
“As the EDA industry has reached a state of maturity, many have questioned whether the days of vibrant innovation have passed,” Demler stated. “When we asked for nominations for Top EDA Innovators, we were pleasantly surprised to learn of the many creative individuals – in both startups and well-established companies – who are continuing to drive the industry forward. In some cases, innovators have contributed to the development of tools that we may take for granted as the foundation of modern design flows. Other innovators are working to introduce new methodologies to address the growing challenges in the billion-transistor era of Moore’s Law. We are pleased to be able to highlight the ongoing innovation in the EDA Industry, and hope to make this a regular feature of the EDA Digest.”
More information on the 2012 Top Innovators in EDA is listed below:
Dr. Chi-Ping Hsu, Cadence Design Systems
Dr. Chi-Ping Hsu is Senior Vice President of Research and Development (R&D) for the Silicon Realization Group at Cadence Design Systems. For nearly 30 years he has been a leader in the EDA industry. The technologies he has developed have had a major positive impact on companies, the EDA industry, and the marketplace. Some of his earlier positions include leading the effort at Cadence that became the industry’s standard approach to area-based placement and routing for over a decade.
Dr. John Sanguinetti, Forte Design Systems
Dr. John Sanguinetti is Founder and CTO of Forte Design Systems, a company that pioneered High-Level Synthesis (HLS) and has driven its widespread use. Prior to Forte, he founded Chronologic Simulation in 1991, where he developed the first Verilog Compiler Simulator (VCS), a compiled code simulator still in use today and considered to be one of the most successful EDA products. Chronologic accelerated simulation technology and commercialized compiled code logic simulators.
Mentor Graphics’ Calibre Development Team
Mentor attributes the initial 20 to 30 percent speedup in Calibre over competing tools to an innovation that allowed parallel checking operations. Following this, the 1996 introduction of hierarchical processing achieved another five-to-ten times speed improvement. Over time, a total of 48 patents have been granted to the Calibre core team.
Highlighted in a special feature, more about the Top Innovators can be found in the 2012 EDA Digest Resource Guide, which debuted this week at ARM TechCon 2012, or at opsy.st/edaTI2012.
