FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz., January 15, 2013 — OpenSystems Media (OSM), LLC, today announced that it has renamed its CompactPCI, AdvancedTCA, & MicroTCA Systems publication to xTCA & CompactPCI Systems. The name change follows the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group’s (PICMG’s) rebranding of AdvancedTCA, MicroTCA, and AdvancedMC under the collective umbrella of “xTCA.” To better reflect the evolution of the specifications, which deal in high-speed serial switching and interfaces, advanced thermal and cooling considerations, and the next phase of High-Performance Embedded Computing (HPEC) platforms, OSM decided to follow suit with the xTCA & CompactPCI Systems rebranding.
The embedded industry’s foremost publication covering PICMG technology, xTCA & CompactPCI Systems will continue to dedicate its editorial focus to must-have news, analysis, trends, and solutions for the developer of high-performance embedded systems. In addition to maintaining the established “Network Intelligence with Curt Schwaderer” and “4G Focus with Mike Demler” columns, xTCA & CompactPCI Systems will emphasize the design and application of PICMG-related technologies in communications/networking, military/aerospace, and industrial equipment.
“The success of AdvancedTCA has led to the development of a family of related specifications, including MicroTCA and AdvancedMC, which have become successful in their own right,” said Joe Pavlat, xTCA & CompactPCI Systems Editorial Director and PICMG President. “We are now starting to refer to these three standards as “xTCA” because of their interrelated nature and shared technology. By renaming the publication to xTCA & CompactPCI Systems, we hope to maintain pace with the success of the specification family and increase awareness of PICMG’s ongoing activities.”
Quarterly print and digital issues of xTCA & CompactPCI Systems are accompanied by four xTCA & CompactPCI Systems E-letters, with contributed articles focused on designing with PICMG technologies such as AdvancedMC, AdvancedTCA, COM Express, CompactPCI, MicroTCA, and more. Annual xTCA & CompactPCI Systems Resource and Buyer’s Guides deliver leading-edge solutions from across the embedded COTS industry, and E-casts from PICMG member companies keep engineers in the loop with the latest in design and market trends.
“The title change of our CompactPCI, AdvancedTCA, & MicroTCA Systems property to xTCA & CompactPCI Systems demonstrates OpenSystems Media’s continued commitment to tracking open standard technologies to deliver the most valuable, up-to-date content for developers of embedded systems,” commented OpenSystems Media President Rosemary Kristoff. “From our eight annual print and digital xTCA & CompactPCI Systems publications to our industry-leading E-casts covering PICMG technologies, engineers, product managers, and executives can gain the technical knowledge needed to make the right choices for their development life cycles.”
The first edition of xTCA & CompactPCI Systems magazine will be shipped the week of March 5, 2013, with the web versions going live at the same time at www.xtca-systems.com.
