New S/DVME-1908 6U VME SBC delivers unmatched combination of ruggedization and low-cost for Defense & Aerospace technology insertion |
ASHBURN, VA – June 4, 2013 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions, a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls, introduces its newest rugged, high performance VME single board computer (SBC), the new S/DVME-1908, its first SBC designed with the new quad-core 4th generation Intel® Core™ i7-4700EQ processor. The 6U VME64 S/DVME-1908, the latest member of Curtiss-Wright’s industry leading family of Intel Core processor-based SBCs, delivers an unmatched combination of ruggedization, high performance and affordability – ideal for upgrading legacy systems based on older processor technology or contemporary SBCs that require higher levels of ruggedization. The SBC features the new 2.4GHz/Quad Core 4th generation Intel Core i7-4700EQ processor, previously code-named “Haswell”. This rugged air- or conduction-cooled SBC is designed for high-performance operation in benign to harsh environments and is ideal for upgrading SWaP-C-constrained legacy systems on the most demanding fielded applications from unmanned aerial and ground vehicles, tactical aircraft, and armored vehicles to rugged naval systems.
“Our new S/DVME-1908 breathes new life into legacy systems where a complete redesign is cost prohibitive,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions. “At a price point targeted at technology insertion requirements, our new SBC brings 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 processor technology to older systems to replace outdated or lower-ruggedization SBCs with contemporary processing performance. With Intel’s ongoing commitment to long life-cycle supply, this advanced low-power processing engine will drive a new generation of higher performance and power efficient compute intensive applications.”
The SVME/DMV-1908 provides system integrators with an ideal path for the cost effective technology insertion upgrade of legacy VME systems. It also provides a high performance-to-cost-ratio computing component for SWaP-C constrained new designs. Designed especially for demanding military systems that require maximum processing in extreme temperature conditions, the SVME/DMV-1908 features typical power dissipation rated at 50-60W.
High Speed/High Density Memory Support
The S/DMV-1908 is ideal for handling applications with demanding storage, data logging and sensor processing requirements. Its contemporary high-speed DDR3 memory subsystem connects directly to the Intel chipset to maximize the powerful Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions 2.0 floating point processing units on the Intel Core i7 processor. The processor’s L3 cache enables it to process larger vectors at peak rates than was previously possible with earlier processor technologies. Standard memory on the SBC includes 8GB of FLASH and up to 16GB of SDRAM.
Comprehensive I/O
The S/DMV-1908’s comprehensive range of I/O includes dual XMC/ PMC mezzanine module sites to support system expansion via either the newest or legacy daughter cards. Additionally, the board provides a host of standard I/O including Gigabit Ethernet, RS232/422, GPIO, DVI, SATA, USB, and Audio.
Tech-Insertion Roadmap
The S/DVME-1908 is ideal for upgrading older VME-based embedded systems. It is fully backwards compatible with Curtiss-Wright’s popular S/DVME-1901 and S/DVME-1905 SBCs. The new Intel Core i7- i7-4700EQ processor, with its reduced power at a similar clock speed, delivers the improved performance per watt required by size, weight, and power (SWaP) constrained applications. In addition to adapting to Curtiss-Wright’s own legacy VME SBCs, the S/DMV-1908 was also designed to replace many of the market’s other legacy VME SBCs.
Curtiss-Wright: The Rugged VME Leader
Available in the full Curtiss-Wright range of ruggedness levels, the S/DVME-1908 is ideally suited for retrofit and technology insertion applications. To maximize compatibility with earlier SBCs, the S/DVME-1908 provides an equivalent complement of I/O to that featured in earlier generations of Curtiss-Wright Intel®, PowerPC® and Power® Architecture SBCs. It also has optional pin-out modes for backplane compatibility. For example, the S/DVME-1908 eases the upgrade of systems based on the legacy VME/DMV-179, SVME/DMV-181, SVME/DMV-182 and SVME/DMV-183 SBCs.
