IPC 2.5 Software Library Simplifies Development of Switched Interconnect Solutions with Messaging and Global Shared Memory Support |
ASHBURN, VA – July 16, 2013 – Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions, a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls, has announced availability of IPC 2.5, the latest version of its popular Inter-Processor Communications (IPC) software library for building high-performance multi-processor DSP OpenVPX™ (VITA 65) platforms employing switched interconnect technology.
IPC 2.5 is designed for use in demanding defense and aerospace signal processing applications such as radar, signal intelligence, image processing and electronic warfare. The new IPC 2.5, with its support for Serial RapidIO® (SRIO) Gen 2, makes Curtiss-Wright’s DSP communications library ideal for use in DSP applications designed with the latest high bandwidth, switched serial fabric-based OpenVPX technology.
“IPC middleware has evolved into a stable platform for continuing generations of DSP applications, easing technology insertion for system integrators,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions. ”Because IPC 2.5 is completely interoperable with earlier versions of IPC, which supported Gen 1 Serial RapidIO, PCI and StarFabric™, it greatly facilitates customer migration from legacy Curtiss-Wright DSP engines into those that support the latest switched serial fabric architectures. As the cornerstone of our multi-processor software strategy, our IPC library software greatly simplifies and speeds the development of our customer’s switched interconnect solutions.”
IPC 2.5 supports two communications models. First, its messaging API provides the foundation for control and synchronization between processors with priority-based, flow-controlled and acknowledged messages. In the second communications model, IPC 2.5 provides a global shared memory model that is used for the transfer of large datasets. With support for global shared memory, IPC 2.5 significantly eases the porting of software between Curtiss-Wright hardware and middleware environments and those from other DSP engine vendors, making it faster and simpler to migrate from legacy platforms to the latest high performance architectures.
A Complete HPEC System Offering
IPC is an integral middleware to Curtiss-Wright’s HPEC (High Performance Embedded Computing) product family, including Curtiss-Wright’s wide range of interoperable Intel® and Power Architecture®-based OpenVPX rugged modules including single board computers (SBCs), DSP engines, GP-GPU engines and OpenVPX switch modules. IPC 2.5 directly supports the following Curtiss-Wright modular solutions:
• VPX6-462 (CHAMP-AV8) dual Intel® DSP module
• VPX6-1957 Intel-based SBC
• VPX6-6902 OpenVPX RapidIO and Ethernet switch
