DSEI 2013, LONDON, UK (Booth S2-268) – September 9, 2013 – Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions, a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls, has introduced a new member of its Skyquest™ family of rugged mission displays. The new Skyquest AVDU5008-EP rugged 20” LCD display updates the earlier AVDU5008 with the addition of an Intel® Core® i7-based embedded processor that reduces cost and SWaP. The built-in PC eliminates the need for a stand-alone processing subsystem. Designed for mission display applications such as moving maps, the AVDU5008’s 1366×768 resolution display features a long-life glove-operable touchscreen to simplify control of programs driven by the embedded PC. The AVDU5008-EP is designed to meet the unique demands of airborne defense, coast guard and law enforcement applications, such as surveillance, patrol and search & rescue, and is easily integrated into Curtiss-Wright’s popular Skyquest™ Video Management System (VMS), a fully featured airborne video management solution currently serving critical missions on law enforcement and military platforms around the globe.
“For airborne mission systems, much depends on space and weight,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions. “Mass is a critical parameter in aircraft mission equipment selection and reducing the mass of a rugged airborne display by incorporating the PC functionality into the display head delivers system designers a significant advantage.”
The AVDU5008-EP features hard bezel keys for core controls such as power and brightness and for controlling other units within a VMS, and LEDs to indicate the state of connected recorders. The AVDU5008-EP has a dual-backlight design to support sunlight readability during the day and compatibility with night vision goggles at night. The display can be integrated into an aircraft’s lighting bus to provide remote control brightness of bezel-mounted keys and LEDs.
All Skyquest displays provide support for external video input and split screen capability. This enables mission crew members to simultaneously view both the application output and the video received from an HD-SDI source. The AVDU5008-EP integrates with VMS via the Skyquest control bus (to other Skyquest recorders, switches and panels). The display’s touchscreen can be used to provide the interface for controlling a Curtiss-Wright VRD1 through its Ethernet network connectivity. The VRD1 is the industry’s leading off-the-shelf solution for high-video-count requirements, with support for video conversion, switching, recording and network streaming.
Skyquest AVDU5008-EP Performance Features:
– 20” diagonal LCD, 1366×768 (16×9)
– HD-SDI input up to 1920×1080
– Durable resistive (glove-operable) touchscreen display
– Assignable hard buttons on bezel
The AVDU5008-EP is the latest member of Curtiss-Wright’s extensive family of rugged Skyquest displays, including the 17” AVDU4300, and other models ranging in size from 9” to 21.5”. For more information on the AVDU5008-EP and how the Skyquest VMS can simplify the design of airborne surveillance while at the same time reducing the cost and mass and maximizing mission flexibility please contact the factory.
