Advanced Debugging Workshop

It has been announced that a key focus of this year’s Device Developers’ Conference will be ‘software reliability’, with many of the presentations and workshops exploring the tools and techniques available to software developers for the development and testing of code.

The Device Developers’ Conference is a one-day event for engineers, computer scientists and technical managers working in the development of intelligent systems and devices. The Conference will take place in Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester and Scotland, on May 20th and 22nd, June 3rd and 5th respectively.

German debug tool company Lauterbach will be hosting a half-day workshop entitled, “A Guide to Advanced Debugging”. This workshop will explain and demonstrate how the more advanced debug tools are enabling developers to produce higher performance code, whilst speeding up reliable code development.

“As software has become far more complex and is running at ever faster speeds, detecting bugs is now a major challenge for developers,” said Barry Lock, UK Manager of Lauterbach.

“Developing reliable code is now a big issue, as the cost of failure in the field is so expensive. Whether it is the damage to the brand of the product, or simply the cost of the recall, investment in debug tools has become a critical business decision. This workshop will give engineers the chance to explore what they can expect from the higher end of debug technology.”

The workshop will involve delegates being hands-on, using Lauterbach’s hardware assisted debug tools attached to ARM Cortex-M hardware, running a real-time application. Delegates will explore debugging techniques such as ‘live trace’, ‘code coverage’ and code analysis.

“We ran a similar workshop last year, and it proved very popular,” said Richard Blackburn. “ The workshop is presented by Richard Copeman, a highly respected and experienced expert in this field. This is a great opportunity for any software teams that are looking to improve their code quality and throughput.”

The Device Developers’ Conference explores the new technologies and tools that are used in the development of embedded systems and electronics. The aim of the event is to provide a productive forum whereby engineers can meet key industry experts from design tool and hardware vendors, as well as undertaking half-day workshops and presentations that offer new skills and knowledge.

The 2014 conference is sponsored by Lauterbach, and also by UK based embedded systems training experts Feabhas, and Italian embedded computer manufacturer Eurotech. Exhibiting companies and presenters will include Wind River, QNX, JTAG Technologies, LDRA and Phaedrus Systems.

The 2014 event will include both a software stream of presentations, and a hardware stream of presentations. Some key topics for this year’s event include Android development, Device to Cloud technology, Open Source Software for Critical Systems and GUI/HMI development.”

Attendance at the Device Developers’ Conference, including the series of 40-minute technical presentations, is free to engineers and project managers working in the technology sector. The half-day workshops are subject to a small charge.

About The Device Developers’ Conference
