Signature of a MOU at the Danish Embassy (Paris) between MASA Group and Systematic

The strategic relationship between MASA Group, a leading developer of Artificial Intelligence-based simulation software, and Danish software systems integratorSystematic was reinforced this month following the signing of a partner agreement. This partnership, initiated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2011, follows a period of successful collaboration, including an 18 month project on behalf of the Danish MOD within the context of NATO’s Modelling & Simulation Group 085. The companies will continue to develop their synergies and respond to growing requirements for integrated Commercial-off-the-shelf (‘COTS’) Command and Control (‘C2’) solutions around the world.

“Systematic looks forward to working with MASA to pursue opportunities that combine both companies’ complementary capabilities,” said Andrew Graham, Systematic’s Senior Vice President Business Development, Defence. “We see great potential for an integrated C2 training and simulation solution to customers in both new and existing markets.”

Thus far, the collaboration has combined MASA’s automated constructive simulation (SWORD) with Systematic’s SitaWare C2 software. The result is a reliable, intuitive, cost-effective training solution (presented as the ‘C2 Classroom’), which command staff can use to interact with a constructive simulated environment via existing command & control interfaces, including but not limited to battlefield management systems.

“The key drivers behind this integration were improved interoperability, reliability and maximized returns on investment for both end users and service providers”, said Juan-Pablo Torres, President and CEO of MASA Group. “SWORD supports both military and civil exercises spanning all aspects of defense, homeland security and emergency management, while SitaWare’s Headquarters software already underpins many nations’ operational C2 systems. There is great potential for developing this joint offering for international military requirements”.

This streamlined and innovative solution will immerse trainee officers in a virtual environment that is identical to their operational surroundings, reducing the traditional reliance on expensive training methods such as live exercises which require hardware and personnel deployment.

“SWORD’s integration with Systematic’s Sitaware HQ C2 solution significantly reduces the established workload of operators, allowing commanders to train by themselves”, said New Markets & Sales Manager Enrico Raue. “By mirroring the operational decision-making of trainee Commanders, and the consequences of these judgments within a simulated environment, the demand placed on operators is reduced. This decreases the potential for human error as well as the cost of running a full blown training exercise as fewer operators are required”.

The C2 Classroom offers Course of Action (CoA) analysis, wargaming practice, simulation support in doctrine development and C2 training. Mission rehearsal capabilities enable trainees to create a tactical plan and receive feedback on operational developments and enemy positioning, as well as analysis and reports. It is a versatile and scalable solution which can be run on either a laptop or in a full-scale server-based training center.
