The award is named after aerospace pioneer Dr. Ivan. A. Getting, who is credited with co-developing Global Positioning System (GPS) technology used in millions of navigation devices around the world.

The U.S. Air Force Space Situational Awareness (SSA) Team working at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, conducted research and development on how to better leverage, expose or derive new data sources for the SSA mission that provide augmentation to the Space Surveillance Network (SSN) at a fractional cost of new major system acquisitions.

“We are extremely proud to have been an important part of this award-winning effort for the Air Force,” said Dave Rodvold, Space Operations Director, ISS. “The work by the team has taken space-based intelligence analysis to a whole new level, and we have a great deal of pride that ISS played a central role in this effort.”

The SSA team’s web-based Integrated Space Situational Awareness tool supported over 1300 users with threat modeling, course of action development, mission planning and three dimensional visualization.
