ITTIA, a global supplier of embedded relational database software, announces the availability of ITTIA DB SQL for QNX(R) Neutrino(R) RTOS 6.6, improving both performance and usability on QNX(R). ITTIA DB SQL is a leading-edge cross-platform embedded database that offers broad flexibility and scalability to address a wide range of embedded system and mobile device developer requirements, with the choice of on-disk, in-memory, and hybrid storage options. ITTIA DB SQL allows database file sharing between QNX processes, and efficient table synchronization between QNX devices and back-end RDBMS products.

The most notable improvement in QNX(R) Neutrino(R) RTOS 6.6 is the introduction of new graphics and user interface features for applications to intuitively display data, visualize queries, and store user input. With support for the Qt framework, applications can directly query ITTIA DB SQL tables into the user interface and manipulate data interactively.

Other improvements in QNX(R) Neutrino(R) RTOS 6.6 increase the efficiency and safety of data storage. The Power-Safe filesystem now uses the TRIM command to accelerate NAND flash media devices, which can greatly improve transaction throughput in an ITTIA DB SQL database. OpenSSL has also been upgraded, which improves the security of database replication and sharing over the network.

To overcome the important challenges that appear when developing sophisticated systems that require a high level of safety and reliability, many QNX(R) developers rely on database software to store and retrieve sensitive information. Some key factors of ITTIA DB SQL’s data management are as follows:

– Significant performance in write throughput, boasting high insert and update performance both on flash media and hard disk;

– Concurrency allowing long-running tasks such as synchronization to run without blocking normal operations;

– Replication used to share information between redundant resources to improve reliability, fault-tolerance, or accessibility;

– High availability, minimizing the various kinds of downtime that can affect an embedded system;

– Distribution to sync with the cloud, using built-in change tracking and ITTIA DB Sync to efficiently send and receive data stored in a back-end RDBMS.

A free evaluation of ITTIA DB SQL for QNX(R) is available at the ITTIA DB Evaluation Center. The evaluation kit contains a complete embedded database library, optional server, support for both on-disk and in-memory data management and SQL tools.
