4DSP Delivers High-Performance A/D-D/A in a Stackable Format with the FMC144

September 19, 2014

Austin, TX – 4DSP announces the release of a new analog-to-digital (A/D) / digital-to-analog (D/A) FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC) card for multi-channel data acquisition and high-speed signal processing and recording. The FMC144 is an FMC daughter card that provides four 16-bit A/D channels with speeds up to 370MSPS and four 16-bit D/A channels up to 2.5GSPS. It offers front panel analog I/O access and can be used in a conduction-cooled environment. This module delivers high-bandwidth connectivity for calculation-heavy FPGA-based applications including beamforming and direction finding. The FMC144 is very well-suited for multi-antenna arrays used in the telecommunications industry where high performance is required.

The factory default configuration of the FMC144 is as a standard FMC module with a high-pin count (HPC) connector on the bottom of the card, but the card can also be configured as a stackable module with HPC connectors on both the top and bottom sides. Stacking multiple FMCs enables higher channel density and creates opportunities to expand functionality while maintaining a small hardware footprint in applications where space is limited such as in aircraft instrumentation and wireless telecom equipment.

“In addition to wireless base stations, the Texas Instruments (TI) DAC38J84 D/A converter and ADC16DX370 A/D converter on the FMC144 can support RADAR and wide-bandwidth test applications, such as mobile testers and arbitrary waveform generators, thanks to the high-bandwidth JESD204B serial interface between the data converters and the FPGA,” said Chuck Sanna, Product Line Manager at Texas Instruments. “The speed of the JESD204B lanes also enables the data converters to achieve an extremely small footprint and low power consumption, making the module well-suited for software-defined radio and other small form factor, portable applications.”

TI will showcase the performance of the FMC144 board with the Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA KCU105 Evaluation Kit in its booth at more than 40 upcoming Avnet X-Fest training events throughout North America, Asia, Europe and Japan. When combined, the FMC144 and Kintex Ultrascale Evaluation Kit exceed the performance and bandwidth of existing solutions, while reducing power consumption, to enable
