Tech Source Condor VC102x XMC H.264 compression and raw video capture card

Altamonte Springs, Florida, September 30, 2014 – Tech Source, Inc., an independent supplier of high performance embedded video, graphics, and high end computing solutions, has introduced its ultra-low power, rugged Condor VC102x XMC H.264 compression and raw video capture card.

The card provides a novel solution to the video relay bandwidth hurdles and latency issues experienced by developers of manned and unmanned avionics solutions and other military and industrial video streaming applications.

The Condor VC102x features two H.264 encoders on board and two dedicated Ethernet outputs, acting as a frame grabber as well as an H.264 encoder. As a result, the card can be configured to provide raw video (1080p at 30 frames per second) to a local host for real time viewing and image analysis while simultaneously sending an encoded stream to the on board Ethernet ports for transmission to a remote location using real-time transport protocol (RTP).

Selwyn L. Henriques, president and CEO of Tech Source Inc., commented, “Latency will always be an issue when sending video from an aircraft back to ground. However, our configurable H.264 encoder enables the customer to manage the trade-off between size, quality, power, and speed, as well as the compression level and bandwidth limitations to ensure a successful implementation.

“We have implemented our H.264 hardware encoders in several current avionics programs and have achieved the low encoding latency and very high efficiency that is required.”

The Condor VC102x is a high definition (HD) or standard definition (SD) card that features an H.264 video encoder with baseline, main, and high profile support up to Level 4.1. H.264 encoding is performed in hardware to minimize CPU usage. There are two main variants of the card – one that supports two SD/HD-SDI video inputs and one that supports two composite video (TV) inputs.

Condor VC102x is available in various ruggedized levels and has conduction or convection cooled variants. While Windows 7 or Linux drivers are available by default, other real time operating systems (RTOS) such as VxWorks, Integrity, and LynxOS may be optionally supported on both X86 and PowerPC platforms.

Tech Source has been developing graphics solutions for air traffic control, military, and embedded applications for over 27 years.
