New VPX6-195 SBC provides dual independent AltiVec™-based Freescale™ T2080 processors, each with its own power, I/O, FPGA and XMC mezzanine site |
ASHBURN, Va. – Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its Defense Solutions division has introduced the industry’s first dual-node Power Architecture OpenVPX™ single board computer (SBC) that provides two (2) independent SBC nodes on a single 6U VPX board. The rugged VPX6-195 features dual Freescale™ 1.5 GHz quad-core T2080 processing nodes, each of which is provided with its own power, I/O, FPGA and XMC expansion site. This innovative processing engine is designed so that both of its SBC nodes are isolated and incapable of impacting the other. Integrating two independent SBCs on a single
6U module increases overall system robustness and mean time between failures (MTBF).
The new dual-node SBC is also well suited for use in “Red/Black” applications that require complete separation between processing nodes. To ensure the highest level of security, the VPX6-195 supports Curtiss-Wright’s Trusted COTS™ and Freescale’s Trusted BOOT™ technology. An FPGA development kit is available that enables system designers to add their own applications to either of the board’s independent SBC nodes.
The VPX6-195 is ideal for size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C)-constrained aerospace and defense applications. For example, with its dual T2080 CPUs, each featuring AltiVec™ support, it delivers the high performance processing needed to handle the acquisition, processing, and distribution of sensor data for demanding video, radar, and sonar applications. The VPX6-195 is equally well suited for use as a mission computer, display computer, or in SIGINT and motor control applications.
A new whitepaper, “Enabling Complex Applications with a Dual Node Single Board Computer” is now available for download.
“Our new dual-node VPX6-195 provides an innovative solution for system integrators seeking the benefits of having two independent single board computers on a single module,” said Lynn Bamford, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Defense Solutions. “With its two independently powered and isolated T2080-based SBCs, the VPX6-195 offers a unique SWaP-optimized design for compute-hungry or security sensitive applications.”
Each of the VPX6-195’s independent processing nodes is supported with a wide range of I/O, its own XMC site, FPGA and OpenVPX expansion plane. The SBC also supports a high speed 10GBase-BX4 (XAUI) Ethernet data plane to the backplane and 10GBase-KR Ethernet to each node.
Available in both air-cooled and conduction-cooled variants, the VPX6-195 is also an ideal choice for upgrading legacy platforms based on Freescale’s AltiVec floating point library as it enables the reuse of existing, proven algorithms and software.
Software support for the VPX6-195 single board computer includes board support packages (BSP) for Lynx Software Technologies LynxOS 7.0™, WindRiver® VxWorks® 7.0 and WindRiver Linux® 6.0.
