X-ES Integrates MIL-STD-1553 PMC into 3U VPX Development Platform to Accelerate System Development

Extreme Engineering Solutions, Inc. (X-ES)Extreme Engineering Solutions, Inc. (X-ES)—March 31, 20110

Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES), a leader in board- and system-level embedded computing solutions for commercial and military applications, announces the integration of MIL-STD-1533 capability from Data Device Corporation (DDC) into its Avionics Development Platform (ADP). This integration provides a head start for customers developing 3U VPX-based avionics systems.

X-ES has integrated the DDC AceXtreme MIL-STD-1553 BU-67X10F/M PMC module into the ADP to provide up to eight dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553 channels. This effort involved mounting the DDC PMC onto the conduction-cooled XChange3000 3U VPX PMC/XMC carrier, integrating the BU-67X10F/M PMC driver into Linux, and developing the XIt1073 3U VPX Rear Transition Module (RTM) to provide an I/O path for a conduction-cooled BU-67X10F/M PMC module during development.

The ADP is a fully-tested, prepackaged, 3U OpenVPX development platform that provides the functionality and I/O required by avionics applications. The ADP supports conduction-cooled payload modules and air-cooled RTMs. ADP benefits include:

• Easy I/O access via air-cooled RTMs

• Straightforward migration to deployable flight systems: the same payload hardware modules used in the ADP during development are used in X-ES’s XPand3200 and XPand4200 ½ ATR solutions

• Simplified software migration: software developed on the ADP runs without modification on the deployed system

“We are focused on providing capabilities that our customers ask for,” states Bret Farnum, VP of Sales at X-ES. “We are making it as easy as possible for our customers to add 1553 capability by completely integrating DDC’s PMC into our Avionics Development Platform.”
