SANTA CLARITA, CA – September 30, 2010 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEL), a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of rugged deployed subsystems for the aerospace and defense market, has announced the availability of its new G4V-VME ViperTM 6U VME single board computer (SBC). This rugged VME64x SBC, designed for safety critical applications, features Freescale’s fastest and most efficient PowerQUICCTM III processor, the MPC8548E, and an extensive I/O complement to provide a highly capable processing platform ideal for a wide range of deployed military applications. The Viper simplifies the integration of high performance compute power and a rich array of I/O into embedded COTS subsystems.
“Curtiss-Wright Controls’ G4V-VME Viper hits the sweet spot for size, weight and power-constrained embedded applications that need high performance processing and I/O flexibility while minimizing power dissipation,” said David Dietz, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems group.
Available in both air-cooled (-40 to 71° C) and conduction-cooled (-40 to 85° C) versions, the Viper is ideal for use either as an application-specific compute blade or as an intelligent I/O blade. This low-power 6U VME64x SBC typically uses 16W power. It supports two independent PMC sites at up to 66 MHz and a balanced complement of I/O capability such as Gigabit Ethernet, six UART serial ports, six HDLC/SDLC 12.5 Mbits/second serial ports, dual MIL-STD-1553 and TTL DIO.
