Mission Viejo, CA – Holt Integrated Circuits, a world leader in data bus IC’s for commercial and military avionics, today announced a new lower profile 3.3V MIL-STD-1553 terminal solution, designed specifically to meet the component height requirements of Switched Mezzanine Card (XMC) and PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) assemblies. Measuring just 15 x 15 x 4.4 mm, the HI-2130LBxx is the world’s smallest single package 1553 terminal with integrated transformers. The new HI-2130 BGA package is available in both RoHS compliant and Sn/Pb configurations, giving customers a solution for tin-lead assemblies without expensive re-balling. This low profile device is electrically identical to Holt’s existing HI-2130, integrating MIL-STD-1553 protocol logic, static RAM, dual bus transceivers and isolation transformers in a single BGA package.

he HI-2130 supports 16-bit parallel bus or SPI 4-wire serial host interface in a single BGA package. Board footprint is reduced through elimination of external bus isolation transformers. Reduced height makes the device ideal for use in contemporary XMC and PMC mezzanine card assemblies.

Anthony Murray, Director of Marketing Communications at Holt stated, “Integrating the MIL-STD-1553 IC die and bus isolation transformers in a low profile BGA package results in a considerable footprint and cost savings for our customers.”

Each device contains a Bus Controller (BC), a Bus Monitor Terminal (MT) and two independent Remote Terminals (RTs). Any combination of these MIL‑STD-1553 terminal modes can be enabled for single or concurrent terminal operation. The enabled terminals communicate with the MIL-STD-1553 buses through integral dual bus transceivers and transformers. The user allocates on-chip 32K x 16-bit static RAM between terminal modes to suit application requirements. The RAM has an EDC (error detection and correction) option which provides additional robustness in high altitude or other applications subject to SEU events. The HI-2130 can also be configured for automatic self-initialization via a dedicated SPI port from an external serial EEPROM memory.

Samples are available now on request from Holt.
