• PowerPC 8641D operating at 1.0 GHz, 1 MByte L2 cache memory
• Provides PMC or XMC site
• Broad connectivity includes Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, SATA, GPIO, serial
• Five ruggedization levels
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA August 30th, 2007 Providing further evidence of the companys market-leading commitment to computing solutions based on the VPX architecture, GE Fanuc Embedded Systems today announced the SBC310 3U VPX single board computer – the first 3U VPX single board computer to feature Freescales dual core PowerPC 8641D and to provide support for a PMC/XMC site. With up to 1 GByte of SDRAM, the SBC310 is the tenth member of the GE Fanuc Embedded Systems family of VPX products – a family that includes 3U and 6U single- and quad processor single board computers based on both Intel and PowerPC architectures, graphics processors, switches and storage, as well as the MAGIC1 Rugged Display Computer. The SBC310 is optionally available in any of five ruggedization levels, making it suitable for deployment in the harshest environments.
“There is no question that the market has been very quick to embrace the VPX architecture, because of the substantial benefits it brings in terms of maximum performance, minimum space and optimum robustness and reliability for demanding applications, such as those in defense and aerospace,” said Peter Cavill, General Manager, Military and Aerospace Products at GE Fanuc Embedded Systems. “Our family of VPX solutions is the broadest in the industry, providing our customers with a one stop shop that will enable them to build complete VPX-based systems, secure in the knowledge that each element will be 100% interoperable with the other. The SBC310 provides an additional option where the requirement is for small form factor, the performance of VPX and the proven capability of the PowerPC architecture.”
The SBC310 features two 4-lane PCI Express ports across the backplane, providing high speed data communication to other system elements. It also provides a number of high speed interfaces for off-board communication, including two 10/100/1000 Base-T Gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 2.0 ports and a Serial ATA disk interface. In addition, there is support for legacy interfaces, including two RS232 ports, and four general purpose I/O lines. The SBC310 utilizes state of the art cooling technology to allow a PMC or XMC to be fitted without compromising processor node performance.
Beyond the advantages that are unique to the SBC310, it also brings the benefits of the VPX architecture – notably its backwards compatibility with legacy systems, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.
