Software-based Data Recorder Supports Data Recording/Storage without Requiring an Additional Slot

DAYTON, OH – January 21, 2011 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems, a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading designer and manufacturer of rugged deployed subsystems for the aerospace and defense market, has announced the availability of its new Vortex SAN Recorder Kit (SRK) software-based data recording solution for embedded defense and aerospace systems. The Vortex SRK speeds and simplifies the addition of high performance data recording and storage functionality to open standards-based laboratory and deployed systems without requiring additional system boards or using an additional system slot. The Vortex SRK is designed for use in demanding I/O intensive applications, such as signal intelligence, radar, sonar, FLIR, RF tuners, MRI and cameras and image processing, that require the high-speed transfer of digitized data between a system’s sensors and processors.

“The Vortex SRK enables system designers to add powerful recording and storage functionality into space, weight and power (SWaP)-constrained embedded systems,” said David Dietz, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems group. “In today’s high-performance processing systems, slots are at a premium. Often system designers must choose between dedicating a valuable slot for a new capability or doing without. The Vortex SRK solves this dilemma for data recording by adding the feature to existing processor cards.”

The Vortex SAN Recorder Kit (SRK) enhances overall system capability while saving valuable system slots by adding data recording and storage capabilities to the system’s existing processor card(s). The Vortex SRK is designed for use with the most popular open standard architectures, including 3U and 6U CompactPCI®, VME, VXS, VPX and OpenVPX™-based systems. The Vortex SRKs enables system designers to flexibly add data recording capabilities to their high-performance processing system at any point from development to deployment. The Vortex SRK complements Electronic System’s Vortex family of recorder and storage solutions.

Vortex SRK Features

* Powerful data recorder and storage functionality

* Saves valuable chassis slot

* Fully-featured Vortex software – 40 man-years of Vortex software development

* Powerful GUI interface

Data Recording Operator Control Made Easy

The Vortex SRK is supported with the Vortex Graphical User Interface (GUI), which provides an intuitive and powerful method for controlling the recorder. After setting a few parameters, a recording session is started by clicking the on-screen Record button. Playback control is just as easy.
