Titan OpenVPX Storage Module

Titan OpenVPX Storage Module

Oslo, Norway August 27, 2010:

Galleon Embedded Computing AS (www.galleonembedded.com) launches Titan, a family of 3U OpenVPX storage modules. Titan offers up to 2TB of solid state storage in a small form factor and is designed specifically for airborne, mobile or embedded I/O applications, where extreme environmental conditions must be met.

The Titan unit holds up to five 2.5” Solid State SATA drives in a 3U dual slot configuration offering up to 2TB of solid state storage in a single device. The onboard hardware RAID controller supports RAIDs 0, 1, 3, 5 and 10 for data security and high performance.

The Titan module is compatible with OpenVPX (ANSI/VITA 65), the recently ratified specification defining a framework for interoperability between VPX modules. It is available with either 3Gbit/s SATA host interface, or 2.5Gbit/s PCI Express host interface offering up to 250MB/s sustained data transfer rates.

“The new Titan RAID module offers unprecedented storage capacity in a very small form factor, enabling rugged deployment of high capacity storage” says Terje Melsom, CTO at Galleon Embedded Computing. “Optimized for Size, Weight and Power (SWaP), the unit is ideal for applications requiring cost effective solutions for high density storage in harsh environments, such as small rugged data recorders in UAVs.”

The RAID controller is fully OS agnostic, and can be run under any standard operating system, such as VxWorks, Linux and Windows.

The Titan SATA RAID/JBOD is the ideal building block for a small rugged data recorder. Supported by most OpenVPX Single Board Computers, the Titan Storage module enables in-house design of high performance rugged recorders with low effort and risk using COTS hardware. Typical applications include recording of radar and sonar data, HD Video, and other sensor data through interfaces like SerialFPDP and GbE.

The Titan Express RAID/JBOD is available in a single slot version for two 2.5” SATA drives and a dual slot version for up to five SATA SSDs. An air cooled variant is available in both single and dual slot configurations, supporting cost optimized rotating drives.
